Jacob Markstrom | #25 | G

I'm just glad teams passed on him when he was on waivers. Some teams were very dumb to do so like Dallas cause lindback is awful. This is why I thought the miller signing was unnecessary and we should have rolled with a lack/Markstrom combo. Miller is going to be untradeable with his no trade clause and I fear the canucks may trade lack instead like they did with Schneider.

Barry Brust (268:17) set the mark in November 2012.

And where is Brust now? KHL.

Notwithstanding the impressive play of Markstrom and not to rain on the Markstrom parade, the season is young. If he plays at a 1.50GAA and 0.930SVP at X-Mas, then yah, we have a bonafide prospect who could very well reclaim his position as the best goalie in the world not playing in the NHL. For now, it's a story of a 24 year old on a sizzlin' hot streak.

Does anyone remember Dany Sabourin? AHL goalie of the year...Lu's back up for a season...didn't amount to much in the NHL.

Not saying Markstrom = Sabourin, but it's only been four games. Conversely, if Markstrom was playing badly and everyone was beating him up, I'd say the same (sort of like how there are those who are wringing their hands in angst with the tending of Miller and Lack so far this season).

Who da F is Barry Brust? Why he is not a NHL star right now is the reason why AHL goaltending stats don't mean jack.

Ernie godden hold the record for most goals in one season in the OHL. He went on to play 5 nhl games. We should totally disregard chl forward records as well then according to your theory.

Very disrespectful.

Brian Boucher NHL career stats - GAA 2.79, S% .901 - holds NHL record for modern day shutout streak at 5:32:01 in 2003-04.

NHL goal-tending stats don't mean jack?

re-entry waivers were removed, but once called up waivers would be required to send him down again.

If Lack or Miller gets hurt then we'll probably see Erickson get called up as an injury replacement since he can go up & down without waivers.

He will only have to go through waivers if he is on the roster for more than 30 days or 10 games.

Barry was 29 years of age when he set the record. If Markstrom can do it at his age, you're looking at a future star.

Right...a 24 year old on a hot streak (as compared to a 29 year old on a streak) who may or may not break a shut out record is enough to say conclusively that the kid is going to be a future star or not? So what happens if Markstrom doesn't break the record as a 24 year old? He's not going to be a future star? That's some mystical logic.

Sure hope that you're not forecasting anything of any real importance for the general public.

Markstrom, in the context of his coach-ability, physical attributes, desire to improve his game, mindset, and performance are what gives him the shot at being a potential star...not whether he breaks a record at the young age of 24 or not. The streak is evidence that in the early stages of the new season, he's on the right track. Nothing more, nothing less.

The difference between Brust and Markstrom is that Brust was 29 years old when he set the record, while Markstrom is 24.

Brust had up and down success in the AHL and ECHL, and was never expected to amount to much. Whereas Markstrom has been hyped since he was 18, and continues to build on his development.

AHL stats don't guarantee anything, but at the same time, it's better that he's putting up great numbers and playing with confidence, than stinking it up. That's what will get scouts attention after all.

Boucher's lasting legacy...record will probably stand the test of time for a long while.

How about the rest of Boucher's NHL stats?

16 years pro in North America, GP: 328 W: 120 L: 139 T: 30 OTL: 25 SO: 17. He looked liked someone who was going to be special, but ended up having a nice career as a back up goalie with a few years where he shared the starting role.

Hope that's not what is in store for Markstrom.
