Then it doesn’t, so the players use their escalator clause to falsely increase it. The players said they’re not doing that anymore. In fact they want escrow (15-20%) to disappear. That means the cap will have to go up naturally. It’s either Marky, Tanev OR Tofu. If we want two of the three, then JB will need to use more picks/prospects as sweetener to dump a couple bad contracts. It’s a real bad situation. Real bad. It’s akin to being gut shot in an old Spaghetti Western. Or wearing a red shirt on an away mission in Star Trek. I guess it depends on what Marky is demanding, but currently we have 20.5 mil for next year. Buyout Sutter and Baer, we have 25 mil. Its tight, but it means Stecher is gone if we can't shed Loui. But we can keep most of the band together. Edited March 5, 2020 by Jimmy McGill

Also, move Benn, replace him with a ELC and you've got more than enough to retain Stech as well.

We can only afford one of the three. ??? Not true at all. Why do you type things like this? Many moves could be made to keep all three. I just mention the buyouts as I like to look at whats in your direct control 1st as a baseline. If you can trade guys to make cap space, fantastic. Please show me a way JB can move out dead cap contracts without adding sweetener that kills our future. Schaller cost us a second round pick to dump, and his contract is over at the end of this season! Sutter, Baer, Loui, Beagle, Benn, Rooster. We need to clear cap to sign our guys who actually contribute to winning. What team wants our garbage contracts without getting a lot of sweetener?

The Canucks traded their 2nd round pick for a top 6 winger named Toffoli. The same guy that is scoring at a great pace right now.

Kings immediately put Schaller on waivers. That’s a cap dump. It’s obvious That’s what the second was for. Yes I’m not a great writer. Pageau was traded for a 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, and 3rd round pick. Zucker was traded for a 1st round pick and 2 players Toffoli was traded for a 2nd round pick and a prospect. LA took Schaller so the cap evened out. It cost NOTHING for him to be included in the deal. Jeezus....

So no, I’m not trolling. To me trolling is insulting other posters, and has nothing to do with stating your opinion on the topic of a thread. Zucker had an extra year and is on a super cheap contract. Pageau is have a career year on a crap team, and he’s a centre who plays a very good 200 foot game. IMO the second we gave up was for the Kings to eat Schaller’s contract. If we kept Schaller, I think that pick is at most a fourth. That’s a huge price to pay to dump a guy who is on an expiring contract, and is cheap.

And if you think the Kings were going to trade a legit 1st/2nd line winger in Toffoli for just a 4th round pick & madden you are simply ridiculous. I will do us both a favor and no longer read your silly posts.

smokes
Marky is proving that he is the unsung hero on this team by being off the ice.

Does JB really have any choice but to give Marky the dollars needed to keep the big guy? Could easily lose the confidence of the players in their management if Marky gets away. Marky is the MVP of the team. A Vezina trophy candidate if he didn't get injured. Those types of goalies don't grow on trees...

I generally agree - though if Marky is unreasonable in his ask we may have no choice but to let him walk. I am sure Benning isn't interested in a 7x7 contract, for example. We can't handcuff this team. With this said, I don't feel Marky is the type to be all about himself and it is clear what he does for our team, so there is little doubt Benning will at least try hard to get it done. I don't believe any team will give Marky 7 years. Not at 30 years old. Maximum he would get is 6 years. 7x6 is probably what he is worth. If he is willing to give Vancouver a hometown discount of 6.5x6 then Benning would have to do that deal. If Benning can get him at 6.5x5 then Benning should win GM of the year... If that’s the cost for Marky, unless he’s s quick heal and we get to the second round of this year’s playoffs, he’s played his last game as a Canuck.
