End of the season prediction

By the end of the year, I predict the only teams we're ahead of in our division are the Calgary Flames ( a team in rebuild ) and the Edmonton Oilers ( a team in rebuild for about a decade now ).

Do you agree or disagree with this?

I think its pretty sad we're a few year removed from a Stanley Cup and are in this predicament. Our old division made us feel better than we were and we now need to decide that it's officially rebuild time.

I think most of it is fairly obvious. The Flames and Oilers will obviously be the bottom 2. Outside of the lead they have on those bottom seats they didn't get better. The Canucks obviously won't catch the Kings, Ducks, and Sharks. Basically leaves the Canucks and Coyotes which is really the only toss up given they moved a decent amount of players themselves.

I think you're thinking small and limiting your options, again. At the kind of stage to which you are referring it is not so much a care of whether or not you are low in your division, or even your conference. It's a question of where you are in overall league standings.

I would suggest that there is a chance (not that I am happy in saying so), that the Canucks could finish with maybe even a top-5 pick this year. When one considers some of the improvements made by teams currently lower in the standings, I could see the Canucks with a clear shot at Ekblad... I know, that would suck, wouldn't it? Sorry for bringing that up.

Back to the topic at hand: you getting people to join in on your Gillis hate.

Yeah, you might be right, but based on previous comments which you've made, you put a limit on any options which put your pre-determined answer in a bad light, so ultimately you're asking a pointless question.

Well, this sort of thing happened before. Remember the '06 - 07 season? The team finished 8th overall. The following year they dropped to 21st. The next season they were back up 7th.

Will history repeat itself? Maybe. I'm planning on watching with a sense of optimism.

If you do want a prediction: I think there's a lot of guys around here who are working themselves into a bad case of ulcers.

regards,

G.

No sh*t, Sherlock.

This team has never been ahead of the California 3 this season, and Phoenix is a crapshoot when it comes to being ahead/behind the Canucks in standings.

Would a potentially elite player be available at 6th overall? Just wondering, I don't know too much about this draft class except that it is considered weak.

Who knows, maybe Ekblad will drop down for some reason.

There's a couple of fairly decent prospects likely still available at that point. From what I've seen, most of the top prospects are "small". They might be over six feet tall, but they're under 180 pounds. That's kind of thin. On the other hand, if the Canucks do wind up picking around 6th maybe they could get a kid like Fleury etc.

Hey don't feel bad, New Jersey is in 11th just like us and is only 2 years removed from a Stanley Cup Final ;-)
