Vrienzy
@DarrenDreger: NHL will award Devils with the 30th pick in the Draft instead of the 1st round pick as usually determined. Also forgiving $1.5 mil of fine. I guess it's a good thing for the Devils that they waited to give up the pick.
lucky_nucker
What BS. NHL back tracking on a previous decision just because Kovy left? Wow, not surprising though.

Lonny_Bohonos_14
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 5m Hearing the NHL has reversed part of its penalty against the Devils for cap circumvention (Kovalchuk contract).... Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 3m NHL will award Devils with the 30th pick in the Draft instead of the 1st round pick as usually determined. Also forgiving $1.5 mil of fine. Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 1m Needless to say, NHL teams are not happy with the leagues decision to let the Devils off the hook. Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 59s Devils were orginally fined $3 mil, had to forfeit a 3rd round pick in 2011 as well as a 1st in one of next 4 drafts... jejejester
There better be changes to the louongo penalty if he retires early. Little surprised by this decision. Guess they want NJ to start making money, not lose more
Warhippy
But Vancouver STILL penalized for Luongo's contract? Hossa still all well and good with the league. Gillis and Aqua man need to get on the league about this crap because this is seriously bush league. How can they retroactively penalize a team like vancouver when Chicago can bury Huet in europe, be all good with Hossa and they still haven't said a word to Boston or Philli about Savard and Pronger and their endless LTIR Crap upon crap
TimberWolf
So are they going to help us out if Lu retires early?
TheRussianRocket.
Wow. Bush league. Second that. This is so stupid. A team has to pay for their actions and the league let's them off the hook...surprising it's for a declining American team on the verge of getting bankrupt? Don't think so. Corrupt league. Devils in a vulnerable position and they give them their pick back...
lucky_nucker
So are they going to help us out if Lu retires early? Unfortunately, we all already know the answer to this.....
hsedin33
There has been so much BS behind closed doors with this league its really no surprise.
Aladeen
Hopefully the NHLPA will raise a stink if the Canucks are sodomized with recapture. That would mean 8+ Million not going into the pockets of players for at least a season.
pwsnipes
So when Bobby Lou retires early I can expect the same sort of discounts for the nucks
Caboose
Cap recapture affects Zetterberg, Weber, Suter, Staal x2, Spezza, Savard, Rinne, Richards x2, Quick, Parise, Ovechkin, Ohlund, Nash, Myers, Malone, Kronwall, Kopitar, Koivu, Keith, Karlsson, Johnson, Hossa, Hall, Franzen, Fleury, Erat, Ehrhoff, Doughty, Crosby, Chara, Carter, Campbell, and Backstrom. Not sure what Warhippy is complaining about?
canucklax
Minimizing the fine I could see, but the pick is what really irks teams. Anyone have the wheel of discipline?

Not sure what Warhippy is complaining about? You're serious? Because it was made retroactive. You did follow the whole timeline of things right? The recapture also will NOT affect Nash, Myers, Kopitar, Keith, Karlsson, Johnson, Hall, Fleury, Erat, Doughty, Crosby, Chara, Carter, Campbell, Backstrom, Staals, Spezza, Rinne, Richards, Quick... Where are you getting your facts from Cab? You're aware of what the gripe and grief is right? As for Pronger and Savard, they will also NOT be affected by cap recapture or retirement because they are soaking up Long Term Injury instead which is another form of cap circumvention as they've retired while still being under contract yet don't affect the team by doing it. In all honesty are you just attempting to pick a fight and argue with me, or do you just genuinely not know what the grief and gripe people have about Hossa, Zetterburg, Huet, Kovalchuk vs Luongo and the canucks is? Because by that list of players you rattled off it is apparent you don't know how or why the cap recapture penalty is an issue

Warhippy
Those names are taken directly from capgeek so I'm not really sure what your point is? You're trusting capgeek? OK, the Luongo rule or cap recapture penalty applies directly to RETIREMENT contracts..... every contract is subject to a recapture penalty if a player juts retires from the league though Here read up. http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2013/1/8/3850352/nhl-cba-the-luongo-rule-cap-hit-recapture-what-it-means-for-the-red http://spectorshockey.net/blog/fun-with-the-nhls-cap-advantage-recapture-rule/ http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Canucks+helped+Luongo+Rule/7792079/story.html http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/luongo-rule-nhl-cba-punish-cap-circumventing-contracts-153717517--nhl.html From the forum itself capgeeks calculator http://www.capgeek.com/recapture-calculator/ And finally cap geeks breakdown of it http://www.capgeek.com/faq/new-cba So by naming X amount of players just because you saw them on a screen detracts from any credibility you might have in this debate. Quick wouldn't ever suffer from that as retirement contracts and contract length has been nullified by the new CBA
timberz21
No wonder NJ didn't forfeit their pick in 2012, they new knew the league would later reduce the penalty. All planned in advance LOL.
