NucksCup2015
Given the mess there will be moves before next season. I don't want to see Kesler go but I do think he wants out and has been professional enough not to mess up MG's bargaining position like Lou did by going public with that desire. He is going to work hard, and be quiet and allow MG to move him, as there will be interest. Sad to see it but the guy is all heart and if his heart isn't here anymore there will be a point where the effort no longer comes and he's useless to us. Sad day indeed will be to see him go but so be it. I do think playing with more elite level talent will make him a better player and we are just a mess. 1. Kesler and Schroeder to Philly for B.Schenn Laughton and a second in 2015 2. Hansen to the Isles for Matt Martin 3. Re-sign Tanev and Santo - obviously 4. Buyout Booth -obviously 5. Sign Callahan as a UFA, as well as Brian Elliot as a solidifying backup for Lack (help him slowly develop with a decent vet to give him some mental rest and to relax a bit). 6. I assume Horvat can make the jump - only real question but I think given his size and smarts he's ready. I like this line up. It has grit, a little more speed, some more youth and allows us to have Jensen/Shink/Cassells/Guance/Laughton all develop in our system - Utica will be one hell of a team. And this is also how our core developed ex the twins, as a group in the minors (Burr/Kess/Bieksa/Edler. Callahan replaces the fire the Kesler brought, Schenn fills the hole on the second line. Horvat between two solid players will take pressure off him, strong leadership with Callahan and Schenn added and still room to even sign Ott or flexibility at the deadline. Matt Martin adds a big hitter and toughness and speed to the 4th, our bottom six are big, fast and tough to play against. Still a transitional team but likely a playoff group assuming the twins and burr rebound, with the size and mix to 'never' know in the playoffs.. Vet D corps stays to ensure that Lack isn't busted. And 4 real lines to actually roll... slappipappi
Callahan tuned down a 6 year, $6M contract to stay with the rangers, a place he said he wanted to stay. Why then does he go across the country for the same money to play for a rebuilding team? Kassian wil likely get closer to $2M than $1 as RFA. Your proposal is generally realistic. Kassian wont get double from what he's being paid now, he's proven nothing other than he can play in the NHL Callahan turned it down yes, but that is likely due to the NYR not being willing to move 200k to meet his demands and term. Probably pissed him off... He is a ufa, market will determine what he's worth, but greater than 6 mil for a 40-50 pt player, well then we use that money elsewhere...Moulson etc... Henrik Kesler
No thanks to Callahan at $6 mil per season. $6 mil on a 40-50 point player is a good way to keep going backwards.

He is gritty, a great leader, and has size....we will lack leadership and that emotional player if Kes is traded. its a way of filling shoes..were paying a 50-60 pt player 5 mil right now... Phil_314
Honestly I'm not sure that's good enough. I have doubts about whether the problems faced by the actual team we have now, the lack of scoring, would be resolved by bringing in two-way guys who aren't necessarily natural scorers, esp. when one of our best goal-scorers in Kes gets dealt. If the Sedins (esp. Danny) and Burr don't find their form again, I have questions about whether the likes of Callahan, Schenn, Horvat, etc. can really provide enough goals to compensate for their decline and the loss of Kes. Another thing, if Archibald's ready for the 4th line I'd rather trade Hansen for more offense rather than for another physical 4th liner in Martin. I hope that more offensive guys like Vrbata, Grabovski or Hemsky could be brought in to complement the gritty skill already present, plus if Jensen's ready I'd keep him up in our top 6. Kelly Green
i think callahan would be a great pickup if they keep kesler and trade the twins instead , what about shawn matthias ? i think he's a keeper at third line center

dragon4401
6m+cap space > Callahan Don't need to waste 1.8m+ cap on Elliot Schenn at 4m? Higgins on the 4th line? Is this a McDavid lineup?
Junkyard Dog
Draft Reinhart Rather get Halak for 2 years to give Lack some time. I don't think Lack is quite ready to be a starter and Markstrom would develop better in the AHL. Trade Kesler, Edler and Hansen for picks and prospects. Buyout Booth. Do nothing in FA besides grab a few depth guys and a Goalie. Let our rookies to develop in the AHL so they won't have to play in the hell hole up here for next season. Besides Horvat. Draft McDavid the following year. Trade the Sedins for young NHLers if they don't bounce back next season. Pipe dreams boys.

NucksCup2015
6m+cap space > Callahan Don't need to waste 1.8m+ cap on Elliot Schenn at 4m? Higgins on the 4th line? Is this a McDavid lineup? Schenn is on pace for 55 pts same as Kelser and is younger and is making 3.2 so he will get a raise as a RFA Higgins on the 4th is a great 4th line, its gives us depth to roll 4 like we did when we went to the cup..the problem right now is we have 1.2 lines nothing more....being able to roll 4 lines allows your scorers to stay rested. A real 4th line should be a shut down line, not a line of goons and castoffs to play 3 mins a game....think back to 2011 and our 4th, it was eating 7-9 mins a game...and shut down other team's 1/2nd line Waste on Elliot? Hmm a vet goalie is a waste? ok Callahan will command 6, sure a slight overpayment but not enough of one for what we'll need if we move Kesler
