thad
Gillis would love to get an nhl ready centre for Ryan Kesler but if Brandon Sutter is the best teams want to give up why not go straight for futures outta philly. Van gets Scott Laughton 1st 2014 1st 2015 Philly gets Ryan Kesler Jannik Hansen I'm comparing the Kesler trade to the kessel trade. I know those were high picks but were not expected to be that high at the time. Jannik Hansen gets us another first by accepting unproven futures for Kesler. Why philly does this.. major playoff beef up, better defensively and going into next season eastern favorites. Why we do this.. Accepting your not going to get a simmonds Schenn 1st package from them or similar package from any team. If there is a package like that out there, take it for sure, but if sutter like players are the focal point, take all futures. Also we get worse right now and another step back like this sets us up in the running for Mcdavid/Eichel. I see all these proposals like Schenn 1st Laughton/simmonds Schenn 1st but I just don't see that as realistic. The common reasoning is "well then they just don't get Kesler then if they don't want to pay that price".. If that is the case then who does? Pitt for sutter dumolin first? Flame away, guys haha
DrChill
I worry that Laughton is going to come out as a 3c Horvat 2c Gaunce 3c Cassels 3c That and draft picks are good, but these are mid to late picks. Rather prospects since canucks aren't known as great drafters. Top 10 don't think canucks would screw it up but 15-30 yes
Derp...
proven young NHL centre or top 5 pick, are the only less risky. I see what your saying, but those pick could equate to very little in terms of top 6 guys. I like adding 1st rounders in 2015, but I think Philly will be a very good team with those additions. really wish we had traded with Anaheim to get Ottawas first... two high pick this year would be a good way to get the rebuild fully moving. Imagine picking up Virtanen and Ehlers.

Just as offensively gifted if not more.

I agree the first rounders are a risk, the thing that would make me take it for sure is if philly gets a decent one this year. If they just barely miss and end up with 13 or 14 it could work out very well for us as 2015 is supposed to be deep. If it ended up as Laughton 14th overall then 23rd overall in 2015 it's not bad at all

I think this city's still too proud to go for all futures, plus with Kes' value he can definitely bring in guys who are ready to contribute right away. What's more, taking all futures essentially means the team's rebuilding, and in rebuilds many vets would want to leave and not many UFA's would want to sign... if we went down that road I could see us becoming the Panthers (sans Lu, Huberdeau, Barkov, etc... of course) or Oilers (or even worse; at least they have gunners, our prospects may not even have the upside or immediate impact on the team). I think that there should always be some continuity and balance between veteran leadership and influx of youth, and these kinds of trades would send negative messages to other players. DrChill
I hope Anaheim drops out of playoffs early, just to convince them to go for Kesler. Kesler For Etem (history with our prospects and ready to come into nhl) Rakell ( duck fans really high on him, and ready to step into nhl) 1st Ott good draft pick to help us get prospects for future. Top ~

Top ~10 If take that deal for sure but I got a feeling we'd only get 2 of the 3. Still would be better than my proposal. Mine is based on the fact we couldn't get what we asked for on the deadline so teams may not give it up at the draft.. Etem and Ott first wouldn't be a bad return though. Imagine We win the lotto and Ottawa falls to 7th lol come out of the draft with Etem Ekblad Ritchie

Top ~10 That would be a very good return. I agree that Anaheim would have to stumble out of the playoffs early again to make them desperate enough to go for that package. Go Dallas!
