canucks155
NOTE: ALL OF THESE TRADES ARE ASSUMING THEY WAIVE THEIR NTC'S. Which after the 1st star on the team does, there will be a domino effect, hopefully. 1 other assumption is that Gillis is fired so the gm will be bring change. In my discussion of whether the Sedins were untouchable or not, most people said they'd like to trade them but the contracts are too much and they won’t waive. The ones in bold are the ones I think that could happen out of the ones I wrote. So here are my offers: Trades: To NYR: Henrik and Daniel Sedin (35% of their salaries retained) To VAN: Stepan or Krieder and 1st OR To Det: Henrik and Daniel Sedin (35% of their salaries retained) To Van: Jurco and Tatar or Nquist --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To Phi: Kesler To Van: Laughton and Simmonds OR To Pit: Kesler To Van: Sutter, Poliout and 1st --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To Det: Edler To Van: Tatar or Nyquist and 2nd OR To Ott: Edler To Van: Puempel, Stone and 1st OR To Phi: Edler To Van: Simmonds and 1st OR To Pit: Edler To Van: Sutter, Depres or Dumolin, and 1st --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To Pit: Edler and Kesler To Van: Poliout, Sutter, Depres or Dumolin, 1st and Bennett or another 1st OR To Phi: Edler and Kesler To Van: Simmonds, Laughton, Read, 1st and 2nd OR To Det: Henrik and Daniel Sedin (35% of their salaries retained) and Edler To Van: Jurco or 1st, Tatar and Nyquist --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think that these players will be willing to waive their NTC's even though they said they wouldn’t. Every player wants to win a cup. Hammer and Garrison stay to mentor young guns or because their hometown province is BC and I don’t think they'll leave. A bit unrealistic to think that the Sedins will move but i think it's 50/50 whether they'd waive. They wouldn't want too, but would do it for a fresh start, chance at a cup and for the good of the Canucks. Also, AV's there and i think they liked getting coached by him instead of torts. Or w/ Det it’s filled with Swedes. I know the retains are hefty but if we’re rebuilding, what good are the Sedins? Not team wants them for $7m. Sedin twins trade will likely not happen though because management won’t trade them or they wouldn’t retain and overvalue them. Buyout: Booth or Burrows (I’d rather buyout Burrows since he has more years whereas Booth is a UFA in the next offseason.) Only buyout somebody if we don’t have cap space Resign Stage: Resign everybody, we’ll have plenty of cap with or without the trades Draft: Fluery, Perlini or Virtanen (if he Cgy doesn’t draft him) w/ top 10 pick Elhers, Honka w/ pick from Ott Bleackley, DeAngelo w/ pick from Pit Free Agency: Sign anybody you can (Vanek, Moulson, Gaborik, or any young guy, etc.) if you can’t, well we’re rebuilding anyways So to sum it all up: In (people who think we’d get based on my trades and likelihood of waiving NTC’s, etc.): Jurco, Tatar, Sutter, Poliout, 1st, Puempel, Stone and 1st Out: Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Ryan Kesler and Alex Edler Then next year we have one of the worst teams in the league and can hopefully either win the lottery or be low enough to draft Eichel or McDavid. Thoughts? Do you think any of these could actually happen? Just want to say that the only way to trade the twins is to retain so yeah…
Grapes-N-Canucks
That's so many moves...I stopped at Kesler. I understand the need for change, but getting rid of Kesler is a bad idea, always.

If we're rebuilding then yeah. I'd rather trade Kesler for young guys because Kesler is slowly going out of his prime and will be 30 by the time the next season rolls around. There's no point in keeping Kesler anymore. The window closed last year.
dragon4401
Edler-Stated NOT going to waive Kesler-Only be moved if impossible to resign Sedins-No chance in hell do I move them for those offers Veterans are needed for every cup winning team...No complete young gun lineup will win it all
DrChill
Too many moves... And no to Sedins going. Won't happen. Thanks

I think he'd rather play for a cup contender and w/ Karlsson or Krownall. I gurantee that Kesler will not be w/ the canucks by next offseason. He's not going to extend his contract and the only other option is to trade him. Those offers for 33 yo at $7m/year? Really? Sedins are garbage now. Might as well clear SOME cap space and get a great return. Yes these are great returns. Old vets out of their primes vs young guns not in their primes yet. They can't stay healthy now nor can they put up points at a 1st line level. Obviosusly its going to take time to do the rebuild. We can sign some UFA's when we're ready to contend. If its a quick rebuild like the one in Ottawa, then we'l still have Juice, Hammer, Garrison, etc.

camerican18
Trade everyone expect for Sestito and bring back Weise. Put me in Coach! I'll center that line. Convince Gino Odjick to come out of retirement, same with Brashear and the Bald one, Harold Snepts! They will round out the second line! Resign Coultier to a 3million dollar contract. Then just play rookies for the D fence and 3 and 4th lines. Perfect line up! Line brawls every night! With scoring from our rookies, 82-0 Stanley Cup champs. I set the NHL record for most penalty min. With 5768 in one season. A man can only dream....
Pears
We will not win a stanley cup with the sedins ....they need to be traded if the Canucks want to win a stanley cup. Maybe not with them leading us, but if we build a solid young, skilled core around them then we have a good chance.
slappipappi
I can't think of one reason why the Rangers would give up the most valuable assets on the NHL (young, good cheaper talent and high draft picks) to take on the huge cap space (even with retention of 35%) of two older, regressing players (arguably the least valuable assets in the NHL). The elite teams have shown the blueprint of winning hockey games in the NHL, and its with younger, cheaper talent sorrounding a great (and improving) core, with little wsted cap space. Teams aren't lining up wondering how to help the Canucks solve their problems. If you are suggesting a trade where the Canucks get younger, cheaper and better, it won't happen. You have the Canucks trading both Sedins (saving about $9M)and getting Kreider and a 1st. And using the cap space saved to sign, say, Vanek. So, the Canucks get Vanek, Kreider and a 1st for the Sedins. They a e getting better, younger and cheaper. It won't happen. The Rangers could simply sign Vanek and keep their cheaper assets, as opposed to ginving up valable assets (and crucial cap space) to get the Sedins And the chances of Vanek coming to the Canucks is close to zero. Well, the Rangers could have this as their top 6: Nash Richards St. Louis (if he stays) Sedin Sedin Hagelin/Kreider/Zuccarello Without a doubt the best top 6 in the league other than maybe Chicago. The whole point of the NHL is to win a cup,and if that means giving up stepan and a late 1st rounder for underprice twins, they'll say yes. Also, of the 2 Sedin trades, i think the Detroit one would have and easier time happening. Detroits top 6: Zetterberg Datsyuk Franzen Sedin Sedin Alfredsson (if he stays) This would top the rangers top 6 and again, the gm would say yes. The Vanek thing or other signings thru FA would be a strict trade at the deadline. Hopefully the player won't know that and comes for the money since we'll have plenty if these trades happen. Then we ship him out for more young guys. Probably would;t work though.

Those are horrible top 6's, full of older regressing players. It doesn't make these teams better now, and especially later. And who else do these teams have to get rid of to fit the $9M Sedins into ther lineup? You think the Rangers can afford St Louis if they take on the Sedins?5 of those 6 Detroit players are on their last legs. They aren't winning anything with that core. And again, who are they dumping to fit another $9M into their cap space? You make it sound like they are getting the Sedins free of cap space. And, if the Sedins fit so well into superior top 6's, why are you so happy to trade them? I don't care if they're older, jagr and selanne are still playing pretty well right now. Like i said before, detroit is the trade more likely to got through. Next year NYR cap space: $21m - $9m = $12m cap left over to sign Brassard and Zucarello (2 biggest priorities) Next year DET cap space: $22m - $9m = $13m cap left over to sign Legwand and Alfie (2 biggest priorities) Both teams would have plenty of cap to sign their guys again. They'd be close to the cap, but this trade is better for them than spending more $ on comparable players like Vanek, Moulson or Gaborik who will command over $6m/year. The Sedins are good on the 2nd line. Not the 1st line, the 2nd line. At this point in their careers they are secondary scorers and not you're top dogs if you want to contend. The reason i would want to trade the twins is because our team is garbage. We're not even going to make the playoffs this year. We have a top line player (burrows) with 0 goals. If that doesn't call for a rebuild or a change, then i don't know what does. Might as well trade them for something instead of having them play for a team contending for a lottery pick. I wouldn't even be worried about the cap if this rumor were to be true, i would be more worried about if they'd waive their NTC's.
