Pay up for Young talent.

Recommended Posts

Ok. This is out there like many posts here but maybe it'll result in good discussion.

Canucks just don't draft well. It's not a secret but many of our picks never make the team for any number of reasons. So I'd be fine with trading away 1st round picks.

Why not make a play for karlsson or seguin or heck Tavares. (Of course not exclusively these players but a under 24 year old player who's a proven NHL elite player)

I'm sure any price tag the teams out on them would be worth it... We know what we'd be getting and it would be young talent? It's out there. Thoughts?

Last years draft went pretty well. Got Horvat (1st-2nd line center of the future) and Shinkaruk (1st-2nd line sniper of the future). You would have to get a gm really drunk in order to get Karlsson, Seguin or Tavares. Or anybody proven under 24yo. For Seguin, it would probably cost us: Horvat, Shinkaruk and a 1st just to even DISCUSS it w/ the gm. It's impossible to pull off a trade like that w/ our roster. Think about it. If you're under 24 and already good, then you're worth A LOT. These trades may work in NHL 14, but not in real life.

Even if we make a trade where the value is equal on both sides, (when in reality we'd have to overpay):

1) The other team won't take it. Why would Ottawa trade Karlsson for prospects, picks, and lesser players? Even if we give up enough, they wouldn't do it.

2) Even if the other team did do it, yes, we'd have a stud player, but we'd have even less of a future than we do now.
