'Nucks Fan from Montana
Been a while since I've done one of these. Did this mostly on an emphasis on two-way play. Trade #1 (VAN-STL): Vancouver trades C Ryan Kesler, RW Alex Burrows, negotiating rights of RW Zack Kassian and 1st round pick in 2015 to St. Louis for C/RW T.J. Oshie, negotiating rights to LW Jaden Schwartz, and 1st round pick in 2014.Why?: Canucks need good two-way forwards and while Oshie would be great for the Canucks for at least five years, Schwartz would be great for longer. Oshie would also get to play closer to his native Washington state. Canucks get another 1st rounder in the 2014 entry draft. Blues get Kesler, Burrows, and Kassian (Burrows and Kassian would add depth at RW for the Blues) while they would have two great centers in Kesler and David Backes, which would probably mean that Derek Roy and Steve Ott would walk. And the Blues would also still have plenty of cap room to bolster their roster (with some $19.7 million in cap room after signing Kassian to $1.8505 cap hit), as well as a 1st round pick back after St. Louis traded their original pick to Buffalo in the Ryan Miller/Steve Ott trade. Trade #2 (VAN-ANA): Vancouver trades D Alex Edler and 3rd round pick in 2015 to Anaheim for D Bryan Allen, D Ben Lovejoy, and 5th round pick in 2014 (which was originally acquired from EDM in trade that sent G Viktor Fasth to the Oilers). Why?: Anaheim has depth at defense and could be willing to part with a couple of defensemen that are defensively responsible and Allen & Lovejoy would come with a combined cap hit of $4.6 million, basically a two defensemen for the price of one trade. Edler would thrive under Bruce Boudreau's system and would likely be paired with Cam Fowler or Sheldon Souray. Ducks would have over $23.6 million in cap space to fill the rest of their roster, which would permit them to re-sign G Jonas Hiller and stock up on forwards with Teemu Selanne's impending retirement.Trade #3 (VAN-NJ): Vancouver trades LW Tom Sestito to New Jersey for their 2014 6th round draft pick (which the Devils originally acquired from Florida in the trade that sent Krys Barch to the Panthers. Why: Devils don't have a true enforcer on their team, so Tom would fit that role nicely. His brother Tim is part of the Devils' farm system and would probably play on a line with Tom if that chance ever arose. Canucks get another draft pick to stockpile their prospect pool.Buyout: LW David Booth (has been a royal disappointment for the Canucks since he was acquired from Florida in 2011-12, could use a fresh start elsewhere)RFA signings: D Chris Tanev (4yrs at $2 million/yr, crucial part of the Canucks' blueline), LW Jaden Schwartz (acquired from STL, 5 years at $3.85 million/yr, young but talented left winger that would play behind Daniel Sedin)UFA signings: C Paul Statsny (5 years at $6.6 million/yr, teammates with Oshie at the Sochi Olympics, likely expendable in Colorado with the emergence of Nathan MacKinnon in his rookie season), RW Jarome Iginla (2 years at $6 million/yr, veteran presence in the dressing room, has been to the Stanley Cup finals with Calgary in 2004, still an offensive threat at 36 years old), C Mike Santorelli (4 years at $1.55 million/year, basically the Canucks' "Swiss army knife" forward if you will, scored big goals, won faceoffs, worked hard for everything until injuries derailed his 2013-14 season), LW Daniel Carcillo (1 year at $925K, Canucks need someone that can drop the gloves after losing Sestito to the Devils and isn't a defensive liability)CAPGEEK.COM ARMCHAIR GM ROSTERFORWARDS Daniel Sedin ($7.000m) / Henrik Sedin ($7.000m) / Jarome Iginla ($6.000m) Jaden Schwartz ($3.851m) / Paul Stastny ($6.600m) / T.J. Zoolander
This proposal angers me. I think I'd riot if these trades went through. Keep Sestito and our assets unless we're getting considerably younger prospects and draft picks. This team looks average at best, with no improvements on defense (even with prospects)
Brendan Gaunce
These are god awful. Remind me why we need to trade Sestito? Worst proposals I've ever read
Scorevat
If we truly are gonna rebuild/retool canucks brass would be pretty dumb to trade away our 2015 1st round pick which would most likely be a top 10 pick maybe a top 5. In return we would receive a 20-30 STL pick in a not so deep draft? no thanks. good try though.
canucks155
The trades are realistic and could happen but I wouldn't want to trade them in the West and management wouldn't either. Good job not overrating Kesler and Edler. Most people on this forum can learn from you that these trades actually could happen, granted we wouldn't gain much. I don't think Stasny will be leaving the Avs and Iggy is HEAVILY OVERPAID w/ that contract. Both of em wouldn't want to come here anyways because of the Luo/Schnieds situation. Madness
The Edler trade is awful.
Disaronno
Those trades are bad on so many levels.
silver_surfer
The Kesler trade is bad for both teams, no way that Burrows gets traded, especially to a team that is going to have cap issues in a few years. Only chance is to a team that needs to get to the cap floor. Trading our 1st in 2015 for a much weaker 2014 pick is insane. You're trading away youth and two of our best two way players for young two way players. Doesn't make any sense from Blues point of view. To trade away Frick and Frack in the same lame deal would cause Rogers Arena to be burned to the ground. If Iginla plays again it'll be on the east coast. Much easier travel on 37 year old legs. Dan Carcillo is a bum, and Canucks need to continue to improve their on ice image, not regress. Archibald is more than capable of playing an agitating/enforcer role. Edler trade is awful, not interested in Lovejoy or Allen. Stanton > Lovejoy
