Dazzle
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=709906&navid=nhl:topheads Good signing. He has very good stats at the college/university level. http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=8475844 One of the (few) things that I do like about Gillis is the fact that he's looking at college players as free prospects. That was his trademark. Too bad he missed out on this one though. Calgary must have been very high on him to acquire him via the Iginla trade. The Calgary Flames on Monday signed Yale University forward Kenny Agostino to a two-year entry-level contract. The contract has an average annual value of $900,000. In 32 games Agostino had 14 goals and 18 assists. A 2010 fifth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Flames acquired Agostino, along with forward Ben Hanowski and a 2013 first-round draft pick last season in exchange for Jarome Iginla. In four seasons at Yale, Agostino had 56 goals and 132 points in 134 games and helped the school win the NCAA title in 2013.
Aladeen
How could Gillis have signed him if his rights were held by Calgary?
-AJ-
I found this guy on NHL 13. Another small, undersized forward with loads of offensive potential. Could be a gem. EDIT: Actually, I think it's a different Agostino
Dazzle
How could Gillis have signed him if his rights were held by Calgary? I meant before he was drafted, lol. But hey, Tanev wasn't drafted and he's great.

oldnews
Calgary must have been very high This much I agree with. Calgary got absolutely nothing for their franchise goaltender, holding on to a pipe dream until one of his feet was outside of the NHL altogether. Couldn't even get a rental return for a franchise that had a dismal prospect pool. They got a late round pick, a 5th round college prospect in Agostino, and Ben Hanowski (a 3rd) for their captain, a guy who scored 525 goals for them and is still a 30 goal scorer. Two franchise players - three maybes.

Kiprusoff has said before the deadline that he does not want to be traded away from Calgary. Pretty hard to move him when he said that.
oldnews
Well.. Kiprusoff has said before the deadline that he does not want to be traded away from Calgary. Pretty hard to move him when he said that. That deadline came after years of missing the playoffs and the better part of a full decade since being truly competitive. It's not like that deadline snuck up on them and caught them off guard.....
