Fred65
When Vcr failed to resign Lapierre and Raffi Torres did the character and elements of the team drop off. Could that be a marking point for the decline of the Vcr Empire ? Certainly they were never the same team after that point and I guess you could maybe add Rome to the list...just no in your face element that kept the opposition with their heads up...and was that why AV was let go..? Sultan of Sarcasm
There are too many things that have malfunctioned to list, but one of the definite turning points was when the power play quarterback decided to leave for concrete-y-er pastures and the chance to win a cup . Can't blame Ehrhoff for wanting to get PAID, but it was a weird circumstance where both team and player suffered from the player's departure. Millerdraft
It wasn't just losing Torres, Rome and Lapierre (which happened two seasons after the decline began) that signaled the end. It was losing Ehrhoff's puck moving and powerplay acumen. It was Manny Malhotra's freak eye injury. It was losing Mikael Samuelsson's 20g 50pt seasons on our 2nd line (and not replacing it)... RyanKeslord17
Losing Lapierre and Torres doesn't start the decline of any NHL team lol. It's the combination of that, core players slipping, coaching being off and on, Gillis making more wrong decisions than right, and injuries. Fred65
Did you just come out from a rock? VCR has been dead for a long time now. Even DVDs are dying. Vcr changed to an even more passive team. You need players who played on the edge keeping the opposition looking over their shoulders. Now MG is trying to bring in more grit and size once again........we had it and got rid of it. There's no edge to the team...they brought in Tortorella to rekindle that style ....but we had it at one time already. It's why teams like SJ have signed Torres et al ...they recognize what he brings. St L signed Lapierre...you need that element on the team, to win. Torres/Lapierre/Rome would of featured high in Tortorellas world....and we don't have that now & as much as they're trying to bring that to the roster....it ain't there
Salmon Arm Canuck
The decline started when our Power Play went 2 for 30-somthing in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final against the Bruins. It dried up at the worst possible time and hasn't recovered. That was the first thing. Numerous other events happened after that as mentioned previous that also helped in the decline. Fred65
Just strikes me as funny with the appointment of Tortorella it's like we're trying to turn the clock back in time. There's no doubt Torts wants to play an in your face, hard fore check.....chances are he'll get fired because of his lack of success....but if he doesn't have the horses to pull that cart he's never going to make it work. We had it and abandoned it

TOMapleLaughs
There are many things that have transpired to indicate the end of this groups' core, but this to me says it all. When we didn't push back when this happened, that was enough to say, "Alright. We're done."
TOMapleLaughs
Meanwhile, here's what Rome contributed to the cause. Here's what Torres did. And Lapierre did a lot of cheap stuff as well. I'm not excusing what other teams against us in turn, but you can understand why the Canucks were as hated as they were.
