Does this announcement not scream publicity stunt? Seriously, cmon? With all the bad press towards mike gillis and the stories you hear with the owners not wanting bad publicity before the luongo trade. I find it hard to believe that this donation isnt a publicity stunt. $55,000.00 donated by Gillis......AND TEAM 1040? If its legit than why make it public? And if its legit than why not just say Gillis? there would be no need to mention the TEAM1040. Whats your opinion? Im skeptical about that announcement on many levels.

Are you naturally, generally suspicious of people giving away large sums of money?

I mean… don't get me wrong… I know I am. Maybe that's the cause?

Until or unless more information comes out about this in some way, it doesn't seem like a particularly effective use of funds for marketing. If it never gets mentioned again after today then I would say that it is genuine. If they keep up with it as a campaign then you might be correct.

There are laws about charitable donations, keep in mind. Corporations cannot give money to a cause in a persons name legally, people can though.

This is the sixth annual donation gifted by the Gillis family and Team 1040 to the CFKF.

gillis showed up with a cheque for $5k and saw the team with theirs for $50k and sheepishly asked "so, uh, do you guys want to combine gifts and say it's from both of us?"

the team guys said no but gillis threatened to give their broadcast deal to cknw.

"oh and put my name first on the card."

Just curious if anyone here donated any money to this cause? I don't really care if you did, or didn't, this is one of those look in the mirror things. I haven't made a donation, BTW. (I know that there are folks already running to the high ground to ask that very question.) I do donate to other causes, just not this one.

regards,

G.

Is Pharmasave evil too? They donated $50k.

The point of the CFKF Telethon is to raise a lot of money from fans who watch the games on TV, but otherwise wouldn't think to donate money to this cause. Seeing that companies, management, players, or community figures are putting in large sums of money makes them feel like it's worth it to chip in $20 or $50 for the cause, and it adds up.

That is why the donations are made public. It's to show public support for the cause, which coming from someone in a position like Mike Gillis, goes slightly farther than just anonymously donating $55,000, which in and of itself would still be awesome.

You know, there is a hell of a difference being a GM in the NHL and a kind hearted person who sees it in his heart to donate to a very worthy cause. Yes you are extremely skeptical; one should describe you as over skeptical to say the least.

One might ask, how much have you have donated to sick children? And you dare to use the name Linden, the name of a humanitarian who has done so much for sick children. Yet you have the gall to malign Gillis in this shameful manner.

Be a man and make up for posting this ridiculous thread. Ask the mods to remove it. You made an error in judgement and embarrassed yourself.
