Was surprised to see how dominant North Bay was over Oshawa. Outshot them nearly 2-1

Erie got blown away in Guelph....a series doesn't start until someone loses on the road. Hopefully Erie can get back on track back at home.

Erie drops the first game in Guelph against the Storm. Tyler Bertuzzi has looked really good for Guelph. Detroit second round pick. Gaunce and Fox both picked up points in the loss.

Nitpicking, but shouldn't North Bay be underlined as well? That's who Liberati plays for.

Pretty disappointing round for the OHL prospects. I sitll think Oshawa can come back, but Erie looks done like dinner. Completely fell apart against Guelph.

North Bay barely scraped through the first round. Although I didn't see any of their previous games, their box scores were certainly underwhelming, even in their wins. Never seemed to be able to win by more than a goal, and had trouble putting the puck in the net. Not an issue in this series, surprising since they are playing the #1 team in the conference.

Erie staved off elimination, but I don't see them winning three in a row against a really good Guelph team with a lot of depth.

On the positive side, no team in the NHL has two prospects in the top 15 in OHL scoring. The Canucks have three.

North Bay won on Wednesday, 3-2, and moves on, Oshawa out.

  • Liberati (NB) continues his flat-line totals.
  • Cassels (OSH) picked up an assist and was a -1 with 4PIMs.
  • Dal-Colle's, 2014 draftee, season ends.

Portland won big on Wednesday, 5-1, and takes a 3-1 series lead.

  • Cederholm had 0's across the board.
  • Nick Petan (Jets prospect) had a hat trick.

The Memorial Cup is the winner from each of the 3 Major Junior Leagues and the host team. If the host team wins it's League Championship then the runner up team of that league goes as well.

i think he meant who is the host team playing in the "next round" (though I guess he could be thinking that the host gets a free placement in the final...)

Answer: it's round robin, everyone plays 3 games (one against each of the other 3 teams). at the end of the round robin, the team with the best record goes straight to the final game , the team with the worst record is eliminated, and the middle 2 teams play each other in the semi-final game (1 game, no series) to determine who plays the top team for the cup in the final (again, just a single game for the cup). there's also a tiebreaker game if the bottom 2 teams are tied, the winner of which plays in the semi-final. there's also a bunch of complicated tiebreaker rules for a 3-way tie which you can read about here:
