Rouyn-Noranda Huskies player Jason Fuch loses fingertip

Rouyn-Noranda Huskies forward and Swiss prospect Jason Fuchs lost a finger in a game against the Quebec Remparts today, after blocking a shot late in third period of the Huskies 7-3 loss.

In the defensive zone, Fuchs lined himself up between a Remparts defenseman, and blocked a shot infront of the net with his hand. He immediately threw his left glove off, and noticing his fingertip was completely missing, ran to the bench to receive immediate medical attention.

This is Fuchs’ first season in the QMJHL, coming over to the team after three years in Switzerland’s Elite Junior A league. He has 45 points in 57 games, and is considered one of the top undrafted Swiss prospects. He is still eligible for the upcoming 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Fuchs leaves the team only two games into their playoff series against the Remparts, with the series tied 1-1. It is not known whether he will return later in the Huskies playoff run, but it is certainly unlikely given the gruesome nature of the injury.

You can't see anything particularly graphic in the video, but I'm sure it'll make you cringe either way.

Wishing the best for Jason Fuchs. Very, very scary.

So what happened to it? Did the shot knock it off so it was on the ice somewhere? Or did it basically explode inside the glove from the force of the impact?

From what it looked like at the end of the video, it detached from his finger and was in his glove. Just glad they didn't show the equipment guys removing his finger at the end there.

And yes, the shot knocked his finger off. That's disturbing.

Ouch...that's a bad one he took for sure. Hope they can somehow patch it up and let him continue his hockey career though I'm sure this will sideline him for a while. Got to make sure if it is patchable that the same incident doesn't occur again if he gets hit there.

...very bad injury and here's to hoping for the best. One tough player that's for sure. It shows for itself when he skates by himself to the trainer in obvious pain...those are hockey players. God bless.

Just found it. It was in a game between CHI-STL in DEC 1990. Wilson took the shot, Paul Cavallini (brother was Gino on the same team) lost the tip of his finger (trainer found it inside his glove. Ahhh those were the days...
