EDIT: About Edler's NTC, I'd tell him that he'd most likely be getting Top2 minutes, play on the powerplay, probably 1st unit, and with Philly's pretty weak D, be relied on very often. Here however, he'd likely get 2nd pairing (maybe even 3rd pairing) minutes, and probably 2nd unit PP time (Garri on 1st - big shot on each unit). JohnScott
Horrible trade. Overpaying Schenn. The 5.25 is worst-case scenario, just incase someone makes a crazy offersheet. Also, Edler's had a pretty bad year, his value to other teams might not be so high. Kesler (as of now) is a better all around player than Schenn, but Kes is injury-prone, turns 30 in August, while Schenn is 22, and has 2 more points than Kes. Also, Schenn plays 16-17min a game, while Kesler averages 22-23min. On top of that, rumors say Kes wants out of Van. I'm sure he'd be happy to play for Philly. canucks155
We probably can't get Virtanen at 8th because I looked at our remaining games and the other crappy teams' games remaining and I see us finishing in 10th place. Fair trade for both teams but I don't know if Philly would want Edler as he has a HUGE cap hit and sucks on Defense. Also, Edler doesn't want to waive... right now that is. Lastly, nobody wants to come here after the Luongo situation.
JohnScott
1. Lastly, nobody wants to come here after the Luongo situation. 2. Also, Edler doesn't want to waive 1. Maybe, but it's not like Schenn/Voracek have an NTC 2. Edler might have an NTC, but does he have an NMC?

What's the difference? He still has to give consent for the trade doesn't he? Correct me if I'm wrong but he doesn't HAVE to submit the list of teams to go to or not go to right? I thought he could reject any trade he wanted too. If he can't, then that changes things.
elvis15
That's kind of terrible overall, but I figured I'd point out both Subban and Cassels will be sent back to juniors next year (of course assuming they don't make the team somehow).
RogerEpic5
Instead of brayden schenn, how about Ryan kesler Alex Edler 2nd or 3rd Schroeder for Ryan Johansen and Nitkita Nikitin. Ryan Johansen is a young center that can replace Ryan Kesler. He is a very skilled and fast player. He has size, JUST like Ryan Kesler. He has play-making ability, JUST like Hank. He uses his size to win battles in all three zones, and is very shifty, capable of beating defensemen one-on-one by using his deceptive speed and quick stickhandling. He moves extremely well for a player of his stature, often catching players off guard, when they think they have him reeled in; he simply shifts gears and goes right on by. He is a very good passer, able to find his linemates open and more often than not get the puck to them in a scoring area. Johansen also works hard on the forecheck and plays in both powerplay and penalty kill situations. The main thing Johansen could stand to improve upon is his physical play, his 53 penalty minutes may be a little bit inflated due to playing on a line with super pest Ross. As a player with such an imposing height, it might benefit Johansen to add some body mass in the offseason and use his physical frame better to his advantage. As it stands, Johansen is still a pretty raw talent but has alot of the tools at his disposal to make him a very dangerous player every time he’s on the ice. Overall I think he can replace Ryan Kesler. Nikita can replace Edler.
canuktravella
Mmmm So whys everyone saying free agents wont sign in vancouver because the way they treated a goalie that wanted out of vancouver for 3 yrs. lets see playing in vancouver nicest city on westcoast versus playing hockey in newark or minnestoa or caronlina Plus playing on team that has been pretty good for last 7 yrs i dont think the luongo situation would stop anyone from coming here. Plus its all about money as well.

An NTC doesn't prevent being sent to waivers. If MG really wanted to, he could send Edler to waivers and tell PHI to pick him up to complete the trade. It has happened before. This all happens if Edler refuses to go to Philly.

Plus its all about money as well.Who have the Canucks signed in the past at FA that wasn't from BC? (Hammer, Garrison) BIG FA's, not Richardson, Weber, Tanev... Also, he said Niskanen who plays on arguably the best team in the league. I doubt he walks or Pit lets him walk. Plus Van is not close to competing w/ the likes of Ana, SJ, LA, Chi, STL, etc. Also, the west is a lot more tough to play in than the east so that might be a factor along w/ the amount of travel the Canucks have to deal with year in and year out.Van might be a great city, but the city has a terrible rep due to the riots. Lucic (BC boy) even said he won't be coming back here or something like that. While this doesn't in any way reflect the city as a whole, it still effects people's decision making process. Not every player cares about the $. A lot of them do, but some also care about cups. It depends.Bottomline: Unless the UFA is from Van, there's little chance of them signing here if they're good.

Angry Goose
IMO Schenn isn't going anywhere. He is playing awesome with Lecav and Simmonds, is young & talented so I doubt he gets moved. If Phi were to move any of their C's it would probably be an unproven prospect like Laughton is my guess.

If it comes to Edler rather going to waivers for Buffalo or Edmonton instead of waiving for the Flyers, then I guess this trade isn't going through, because MG is not shipping him out for nothing in return. But honestly, who'd rather go to Buffalo/Oilers instead of a playoff team in Philly? EDIT: Ehrhoff would..
