hsedin33
http://toronto.ctvnews.ca/james-reimer-s-wife-attacked-on-twitter-by-leafs-fans-1.1744402 James Reimer's wife attacked on Twitter by Leafs fans James Reimer is seen with his wife celebrating her birthday in a Twitter photo posted on her account. April Reimer, the wife of Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer, became the target of angry fans on Twitter over the weekend. Some Maple Leafs fans decided to vent their frustration with the team's losing streak online after they lost their fifth straight game against the New Jersey Devils Sunday night. Unfortunately for April, fans took out their anger on her, presumably because her husband doesn’t have a Twitter account. Reimer was pulled from the net 22 minutes into the Sunday night game against the New Jersey Devils after allowing three goals on 10 shots. He's has been filling in as the Leafs goaltender during Jonathan Bernier's absence. Bernier has been out with a groin injury since the March 13 game against the Los Angeles Kings. The Leafs are barely hanging onto a playoff spot with goaltending and other factors at play. Some online comments slamming Reimer's wife were not included due to their offensive nature. Absent Canuck
I think fans go too far. in the end, as much of a 'religion' that hockey is to us rabid Canadians, its still just a game. The fans that went after reimers wife should be disowned by the hockey team immediately.

CatsPajamas
Meh. This is similar to the Dallas Eakins situation in that it isn't ideal, but that it comes with the territory. I don't expect anymore or less from Canucks' fans, or any sports' fans for that matter. The ratio of assholes to normal people is relatively similar, and so of course the bigger the market the larger the population of assholes. Toronto is the league's most popular team, therefore they have the most asshole fans. And since they're the league's most popular team the media is much more likely to cater to them and the volume of media covering the Leafs is much larger, which promotes a generally bias and deluded view of the team. My point is that Leafs' fans really do ???? suck, but we nor any other sports' are actually "better," than them, just products of different cultures. Which is also the case for people and their culture and location in general. Funny how the media reflects the fan base. Leafs' media is like, "as it stands, with Phil Kessel the outstanding offensive dynamo and perennial Selke award candidate along with Dion Phaneuf the franchise defenseman leading this team, the Toronto Maple Leafs are at the very least a contending team, if not the favourite to win the Stanely Cup." Canucks' media is like, "THE SKY IS MOST DEFINITELY FALLING RIGHT NOW!!!" And in both cases the media's attitudes reflects the attitudes' of their respective fans, or vice versa. If twitter was moderated by the folks at HF, this would not be a problem. Actually, twitter would likely not exist. OMG I know. That place is a dictatorship. Stupidest website with the stupidest moderators and the stupidest rules. CDC is also pretty stupid, but that is due to kick ass moderators. They're ultra lenient, which has its cons (like Cucumber being allowed to post), but the pros far out way the cons. Specifically, people aren't talking like someone is holding a gun to their head. The only thing I would change about the way this forum is moderated is the level at which insulting and personal attacks are allowed. The culture of CDC is super aggressive, anyone who perceives someone else as wrong almost always goes on full attack mode. So often I see people insulting each others intelligence and knowledge or understanding of hockey. I think that could be toned down.

Oh but when it happened to us it wasn't "fans" it was idiots. Well you see, we don't have bad fans, our fans are all little angels that could never do anything wrong, any wrongdoing by some guy in a Canucks sweater is just a brain dead "bandwagoner", however other teams fans are just nasty, classes losers who have no honour or integrity. CatsPajamas
That wouldn't be a bad thing actually. How so? As is the case with most things, you have to identify the purpose it serves, the necessity of that service, and the positive and negative impacts it has. hockeyville88
Truly pathetic. This is a good way to scare players away from ever wanting to play in hockey markets At least we've never stooped to something this low. Although...if Gina Luongo was on Twitter, we might have been no different. I think pro athletes are sort of engineered to face criticism. They've done it their whole lives and it doesn't phase them. What phases them is when their families get dragged into the mess. That is totally uncalled for and it crosses the line, in my books.
Jägermeister
Can't really compare property vandalism to verbally attacking a person in a direct way. Well the vandalism was meant as an direct attack on Lucic and his family. Both acts are disgusting in their own right. The Leafs fanbase and our fanbase both have their fair share of slime-balls for sure.

Pro athletes are taught from junior to prepare for this sort of thing. They are well compensated and well versed on how to interview and react to the $$ paying fan base. As ugly as it gets, pro athletes accept this as the worst part of the business, but their families have always been traditionally off limits. Ragging on Mrs Weimer should be addressed by the Leafs as ridiculous and they dont want those fans to cheer for them or buy tickets.
Canuck or Die
Well you see, we don't have bad fans, our fans are all little angels that could never do anything wrong, any wrongdoing by some guy in a Canucks sweater is just a brain dead "bandwagoner", however other teams fans are just nasty, classes losers who have no honour or integrity.Yeah, because we never hear about how the Canucks have the worst fanbase, yet every other team's fans are the perfect fans?Give me a f*cking break. Funny how when other fanbases do something stupid, no one says anything about it. And when they get called out on their crap by us, after they go out of their way to smear us in the media, we somehow think we are the perfect fans? Moonshinefe
Never understood the point of all this "those fans from the other team are terrible" and "the media is biased against us" stuff. It seems, at least in this case, irrelevant. It's a few trolls and immature people venting their anger inappropriately on social media. Incidents like this can happen from any fan base with a significant social media presence. Hockey fans are regular people like everyone else. And just like there are trolls and immature people in the general population, there are the same sorts of people who also happen to be hockey fans. I'm in no way condoning their behavior, I think insulting someone's family over a game is contemptible, I just don't see why it always has to turn into a giant pissing match between "us vs. their fan base".
