Soon-to-be available GM's this summer?

Been hearing alot of chatter on a few GM's being handed their walking papers at this season's end.

David Poile- Original and longest tenured GM with Preds. Nashville is a team that is as stale as bread and rumoured to have both Trotz and Poile being shuffled out for the sake of change. I believe this guy wint be out of a job long. He has a long record of great drafting, but when it comes time for paydays, ownership clams up thus having to watch his star players walking year after year.

Dale Tallon- Another stellar GM. I STILL credit him for setting Chicago up for many years when they were dead last and crickets in the stands. Ya, he made a few questionable free agent signings in his first and second year as GM in Florida but other than the land of sunshine, hot latinas and cigar boats, its hard to attract top free agents. Cant argue his draft choices tho.

Those are the top 2 I would drool over to replace Gillis....both with historic ties to Vancouver and both with legitimate GM experience

other names I hear of for various reasons are

Sather

Rutherford

both likely to retirement or staying on as executive management.

Cheveldayoff

McPhee

MacTavish

Snow

Thoughts?

I think Jason Botterill, out of Pittsburgh, is a strong candidate. The best GM's almost universally served as an asst GM before getting a GM job. Plus he's learned from a great GM in Shero.

do you seriously think Tallon is getting fired? That's not happening

i believe the aquilinni's will give gillis the summer to right the ship, especially if they have had a say in the luongo deal last year,

and more of the decisions that gillis is getting blamed for...only they know that....i don't think any of us are privy to that info....

i'm saying that not all fans are calling for his head.....yet

Snow, McPhee are on your list? Snow for his overall mess he made of the Islanders and the cherry on the cake fiasco with Vanek and the Guy who traded Forsberg for Erat? You would consider these two?

I think Cheveldayoff has one more year, to give Maurice a chance to turn it around in 1 full year, otherwise I think he's gone next summer if they don't make the palyoff.

Didn't someone started a thread saying Rutherford was about to re-sign in Carolina? Anyway I wouldn't want him, except for the cinderella season, hasn't done much in Carolina.

Wouldnt mind Poile, but same philosophy as Gillis...it's a process. Anyway like many said Gillis going no where this year.

David Poile's father, Bud, was the Canucks first GM .. so there is history, but I want none of these guys mentioned, including Naslund .. Gillis is in the process of righting the ship .. everyone knows that a 'process' takes time, well everyone other than the 'instant gratification' crowd,it seems

What will likely happen is Gillis will either remain the GM or will shift solely to the President role; with the addition and/or promotion of a new GM.

Anyone with ties to the organizations past is a plus. I don't like what Pollie has done in NAS though but to be fair... they don't have much elite offensive talent outside their D.

Guess will see. Tallon won't be moved though especially with new ownership in FLA. They will want to milk Tallon and give him the tools to be successful. His recent results are what you get with limited cap space and poor off season Free agencies.

I'm not sold on Gilman and I don't think having your old boss whispering ur in your ear every minute is going to help us. If we are to add someone new we need someone fresh with a different variety of ideas. Obviously Gillis would be involved but having someone new would give us a new perspective.

Poile would be great here On a team with no cap restraints hes great at drafting and trades as well i think hes one of the top five gms

I'm not to familiar with Poile's work but he had major cap restraints that might explain. Not to mention NAS isn't the most desirable hockey location. Where does everyone else rank Pollie's GM skill? top 10? top 5? lower?
