inane
I have this: http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POCEN/Home/AV-Receivers/Pioneer+Receivers/VSX-521-KI also have built in speakers in my house, 4 in the living (2 front, 2 back), 2 in the kitchen, 2 leading to a deck. All the wires for those speakers come down into a switch to control what rooms are on or off. From the switch is one master speaker wire. How do I connect that to the receiver? If I had only one room I'd just connect normally, but because I only have the one master set of wires from the switch, how do I connect that?Anyone have any experience with this? But what do I connect that to on the receiver? The big banana plugs right at the center labelled Front ... on the bottom labelled speaker. With banana plugs, I believe that some you can insert speaker wire through the top and screw the plug to tighten.Take a lookie, this might help, except you have banana plugs in your receive but not on the other end - Forget 'surround' and 'center'. inane
So it will just have whatever speakers are turned on playing at the same volume or...?My speaker wire from the selector has 4 individual wires, so black and red for front R and the other two colours for front L? You would think whoever installed speakers built in to the house, there would be a secondary volume control in each room.Yes, black and red for front R and the other two for front L. It goes without saying, red from receiver to red speaker selector module.I take no liability if when you turn it on and everything blows up ... haha .. j/k.Let us know if it works. But in all reality, I'll have the living room on to watch TV and off otherwise if it's just music... I'll see how it goes tonight. Thanks!

(fancy..)They were built in when we bought it. It's awesome. Also, the wiring worked, I can control the three different rooms separately. It's sweet. Baka
I don't feel like making a new thread so I shall just ask it here. Does anyone know the general ballpark range it should cost me to have a Receiver repaired? I have a Denon AVR-1712. I used it fairly close to daily over the past years and often pushed it very loud. The last time it worked I did push it higher than I normally do and after a while it simply shut off. When I turn it on now it attempts to power up then it automatically powers down and gives me a flashing red light around the power button (normally is a steady green light). I am assuming I pushed it to hard and it blew something or maybe overheated and broke something. I have watched some videos on how to find the issue and fix them but it often involves soldering which I haven't done since middle school so I am hesitant to try it myself. Also if not realistic does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement receiver that isn't entirely built to be user friendly but more advanced in its features? I had originally bought a new receiver but despite being more powerful it was incredibly simplified and ended up irritating me with how little power I had over how I wanted the sound to play. Plus in general would like it to be durable and able to handle regular and loud use. Spec preferences.... 5 speakers (100W each), 1 sub, and the receiver needs a minimum of 4 HDMI input ports.
