kacholu
I'm not saying the Sedins do not deserve their contract extensions at all. They are still the face of the franchise and they do sell tickets. I do however wonder how much they would have signed for if we signed them at the end of the year. Given the circumstances I know signing then early was the right move. At the time they were on fire and Canucks were winning. Also, we all thought the cap was going up much higher as well. So what do you guys think would have been the amount if we did in fact extended them at years end? I'm guessing 6 million each
Ronalds.Kenins41
If we risked signing them then we might have lost them to free agency. At the time the signing happened everyone in Vancouver was glad to hear it and people pressured gillis to get it done early. Hindsight is 20/20. I was and I am still happy about the extension. If you actually understood my question. I was asking hypothetically.......

But keep in mind if they hit the FA and wanted to make the most money possible they would have had to sign with the same team and the amount of teams that could take on the cap for both of them is limited. Where as if they left the Canucks would have 14 million extra money added onto the already had cap space to pursue whomever they wanted.
Jab316
I would have been totally fine if we lost them to free agency.
Riviera82
The way they've produced this year, the fact that they want to stay here, and the fact that they wont go anywhere separately thereby limiting the number of teams who could take them on, I'd be generous and offer them 2 years each at 5 million per. PhillipBlunt
The contract extension could have been done later on in the season, but needed to be done. I have harped on the Sedins for being no shows from January until March, but honestly this season has been as unlucky as I can remember. The injuries have been brutal. Gillis' inability as a general manager has hurt their ability as players to succeed. Gillis has failed miserably in building a first and second line, even though he had huge pieces already in place. Same with the defense. The present defensive corps, even healthy, isnt enough. Too small, too timid. Henrik Sedin is still a top center in the league. Daniel is not as good at all. Although I'd like to see how he approaches the new season.
Oliewud
i honestly did not think they would sign for over 6.5 so i was quite shocked to see 7 mill each but with the cap going up i guess percentage wise it was the same.
hockeyville88
The way I look at it: Every player can have one bad year. If they have two bad years, that's where I'll get concerned. If they bounce back next year, no one will remember this. But if this is the start of their decline...we're screwed

I said 5.5 for 2 years then re assess. 6 mil for 2 years I could have lived with. There were some of us who stated it was a mistake. Doesnt matter .We are not contending so we dont need every ounce of cap space. Twins can stay for the rebuild and mentor.

Tom Sestito
If they stay 65-70 point players, I'd be happy.
Nuxin07
I'm a lot more worried about the term on their contracts then the money. 4 more years at this pace and they will sadly be boo'd out of town.
Nuxin07
It pains me to even look at nhl.com and see this: H Sedin 65gp 10g 46 pts D Sedin 66gp 14g 42 pts I don't know how it is possible to have that awful of a decline unless you look at the system and style they are expected to play in. The Sedins need to accept some responsibility for sure, but the hiring of Torts has been absolutely awful for this team.
oldnews
Hank getting a wrist injury, playing through it, and then adding a cross check that had him whincing all over the ice, breaking his ironman streak and ruining his opportunity to play at the Olympics was not predictable. That is the context of his reduced production. The rest of the nonsense second guessing re-signing him, or the term, is beyond overdone imo. All players go through down times. This fan base has it's share of impatient grasshoppers and anxiety ridden doomsdayers. I have a great deal of faith the the Sedins will be back next year, the same players they were through 40 games this year before injuries, exhaustion, and bad fortune set in. Ben Kenobi
I do however wonder how much they would have signed for if we signed them at the end of the year. Daniel Sedin is currently the #30 LW in the NHL. That's Chris Higgins money or 2.5 million/year. Henrik Sedin is currently the #38 C in the NHL. That's Nick Bonino money or also about 2.5 million/year.

I hear you but taking the high road doesnt necessarily make it so. It could be that the twins are declining and have been since last year. They arent this bad but they are 70 point players now. Ben Kenobi
29 goals Walton (1977-78) 29 goals Daniel Sedin(2007-08) 28 goals Blight (1976-77) 27 goals Naslund (1999-00) 27 goals Boudrias (1971-72) 26 goals Ververgaert (1973-74) 23 goals Kesler (2013-14) 23 goals Burrows (2012-13) * (extrapolated out to 82 games). This speaks volumes. Kesler has already tied the worst goal scoring performance by a team leader in history. For a full season, he needs just 3 more to tie Vergergaert in 1974. For those of you blaming Torts - they actually had the worst forward talent in terms of goal scoring last year.

RyanKeslord17
Is it just me or would anyone else have been five with bit re-signing them? We're looking to get younger, don't see the idea in signing them for 4 years
