votrechien
Consider the Canucks go 5-1-1 in the final 7 games and miss the playoffs. That would mean they finish with a 39-31-12 record. Would you consider this fair performance by Tortorella given the team he had?
Neversummer
NO ... if he misses the playoffs, it's worst than last year. Plain and simple, no excuses about injuries, look at Pittsburgh and Detroit. Not making it into the playoffs is a step backwards.

Baka
you must not get what a rebuild is Or maybe the Canucks don't get what a rebuild is considering they are running a roster full of 30+ year old players and not young early 20 year old players. Neversummer
you must not get what a rebuild is No one at the beginning of the season, not MG, nor JT would have said they'd be satisfied if they didn't get into the playoffs. In MG's terms, he was after a 'reset' not a rebuild.
BOHORVAT53
This is not a rebuild.. no excuses.. despite a tough division/conference, its still a fail.. but because of unnecessary lengthy contract extensions to staff and players, 80-90% of the team will be back next year and likely both gillis and torts are staying Owners are behind most of team decisions so he can't fault MG... WE as fans can, but Owner makes the final call and i put my money on Gillis most certainly staying.. As for Torts, does 5 years 10 mil sound like an MG negotiation? Torts is owners pick so he gets another shot next season Think Anaheim.. they are usually solid contendors, but every so often they dont make the playoffs (2 seasons ago), but come back with some solid signings and are back to the top of the standings.. We missed the playoffs in 08 and make the final a few years later If we rebuild, there goes our organizations credability and UFA's will no longer sign here.. We have been known as a team that spends up to the cap limit and goes for it every season... that wont change.. only thing that changes is that this time around, we are gonna try to do this with a younger and bigger team Not saying I agree with decisions made by staff and management, but im just pointing out the realistic scenario from upper managements eyes, not ours

In MG's terms, he was after a 'reset' not a rebuild. Semantics. Whether you call it a retool, reset, or a rebuild, success this year wasn't really an expectation except maybe from the players and some fans. Whether you call it a retool, reset, or a rebuild, success this year wasn't really an expectation except maybe from the players and some fans. Semantics is everything. OP asked if not making it into playoffs is considered satisfactory or 'fair performance' for JT. The answer is no. Your use of the word 'success' is vague. If we use making it into playoffs as a marker then it's obvious ... epic fail.

Neversummer
Pittsburgh has so much depth it isn't even comparable Torts: "We're not going to make injuries as an excuse but I've never been part of a team with so many injuries to our top guys" ... we're not going to use that as an excuse ... but I feel that I just needed to mention it over and over again till you buy the fact that injuries were not an excuse for our situation. DeNiro
We need to do what Anaheim did, which is to reload around the core and get some younger players in the lineup. Possibly trade Kesler for some more great young players like Anaheim did with Ryan, and draft a puck moving defenseman like Fleury, like Anaheim did with Fowler. Absent Canuck
Or maybe the Canucks don't get what a rebuild is considering they are running a roster full of 30+ year old players and not young early 20 year old players. I have been saying this for a while now. Our best players are 33 years old and falling apart. There is no way, and I mean 0% chance we win the cup with the twins as our top line players. That day is done. Rebuild for christs sakes. The sooner we start the sooner we can finish and go upwards again.
BI3KSA-
At least, no matter what has happened this year as far as performance and statistics go, we played with heart. We played with more heart than I've ever seen this group play with. for that, I think Torts has done well. This roster, this team, has failed. I like what Torts had done. Not what Gillis has done. TheHitman
Time to lose all of these games and get as good a draft pick as possible.
TimberWolf
Time to lose all of these games and get as good a draft pick as possible. Any team that intentionaly loses games for a pick should be forced to forfiet their first round pick for the next five years. Not that it matters, players wont intentionally tank no matter how much you want them to.

Plain and simple, no excuses about injuries, look at Pittsburgh and Detroit. Not making it into the playoffs is a step backwards. Nobody has had injuries like the Canucks this year. We lost Santo Burr D. Sedin H. Sedin for large portions of the season. Not to mention the hits we've had on D. That's our whole first line and our second line RW who was pretty much a mini Kesler. So no they haven't been what we've been through. And our roster isn't exactly full of depth players. I won't use the division or conference strength as an excuse cause I feel our injury woes is sufficient.
