vladimirpuck
I think Cole Cassels, Bo Horvat, Dane Fox, and Hunter Shinkaruk will help the Canucks but I am wondering if they will be able to help this team right away next season. Will they help get this team into the playoffs next season or is that unrealistic?
DeltaSwede
I don't mean to bash you are anything but first off all, not all of those players will make the team, maybe not even one of them. Second of all, how are 4 unproven rookies going to get this team in to the playoffs? If it was like that, why even bother having big contract players and just have rookies on ELC's and win the Stanley Cup?
NewYorkYankees8771
horvat will probably make it as a third-line center next year shinkaruk will make it if he can crack the top-6, if not he will start the year in utica fox will be in utica cassels will be back in juniors next year
NewYorkYankees8771
also, i dont think gaunce has the foot speed to start as a 20-year old in the NHL, he will be in utica next year subban will be back in juniors in belleville
Absent Canuck
Not even Gretzky Lemieux Orr or Crosby helped a team to a Stanley cup in a prominent role during their rookie year. Horvat will be on the team unless he has a terrible camp because he is too good for junior and his game requires him to take his lumps against men learning a very difficult 2 way game at the NHL level. He is ineligible for Utica. Shinkaruk will play in Utica because he is eligible and he looked bored more than anything in the WHL. Gaunce will also be in Utica as will Fox to start out. Cassells will be in junior. Patience is the key .
bd71
Please put them in the AHL! This team needs to start taking development seriously. I was at the Wings-Leafs game last night and was so impressed with all the young guys on Detroit. And all those players save for Danny DeKeyser spent significant time in Grand Rapids. And they aren't 19-20. Nyquist is 24, Tatar 23, Jurco 21, Sheahan 22. Give them some time to develop. Plugging them into this current mess and expecting them to turn it around does little for the long term. Patience is more often than not rewarded in player development. Legend Killer
As long as they stay the course, i'd only really want to see Horvat next year. He's got nothing left to play for, and you can tell. Horvat is battle tested.

TheMohammadman
Hopefully they can spark the Sedins, Kesler, and our d-core to start preforming really well. Hopefully we make few smart moves in the offseason to also help.
babych
I would be happy if one of the four you mentioned made it as a regular NHL'er. That, plus Jensen being on an ELC should give Vancouver some decent cap room.

73 Percent
Help me out here. Why is Horvat NOT eligible for Utica?as posted IN EVERY OTHER PROSPECT THREAD a player DREAFTED from the CHL is not eligible to play in the AHL until he is 20 years old (by a certain date). shinkaruk has a late birthday (October) so he is eligible to play in utica because he is turning 20. Jack Fig
Help me out here. Why is Horvat NOT eligible for Utica? His hockey age next year will be 19 (born 1995), players need to be 20 to be assigned to the AHL.
VanGnome
Help me out here. Why is Horvat NOT eligible for Utica? AHL rules stipulate that players below the age of 20 must be assigned to their Junior clubs Edit: applicable to CHL drafted players

No thanks for the cap words.sorry for the rude response. youve only asked once. some posters on here just cant get this through their skull. its mind numbing. guaranteed there will be a thread in less than a week predicting that subban and cassels will be utica regulars next season. ridiculous. again sorry for the backhanded response. 73 Percent
Uhhhh... not really, considering Gretzky wasn't in the NHL during his rookie year. still makes it true...
Absent Canuck
Help me out here. Why is Horvat NOT eligible for Utica? Because an agreement was signed between the NHLPA and the CHL. Unless the guy stays with the big team, he has to return to junior unless he turns 20 by Dec 31 of that year. Its all about making money for junior teams instead of the AHL getting it. Horvat will only be 19 on Dec 31 2014 so he would have to go back to London , which we wont do. His work ethic is so strong that he can at least be a fourth liner up here. Absent Canuck
Uhhhh... not really, considering Gretzky wasn't in the NHL during his rookie year. Those are some pretty microscopic tweezers you pulled out to use this as a 'gotcha' moment . Gretzkys rookie year in the NHL was disallowed the Calder trophy. It was still his rookie year. Its called their first year. Lets put it this way............Igor Larionov's rookie year was 88-89 when he was already 29 years old. He also was not eligible for the Calder. westcoast
What's ideal IMO would probably be to try and get them all to play a year together in AHL. (That are eligible to do so)
