I wanted to bring up this proposal to ask my fellow fans what they think about doing a potentially ground breaking deal. The type of deal an American city could do without their market going nuts.

Now I know we highly value our poker chips but if a deal were to be available to bring in a young first line center. Would we as a market be willing to allow our gm to land the said first line center for arguably our to best trade chips. (if they both waive).

These players being our elite 2nd line center who wants out and our struggling but very high potential top 4 possibly top 2 defenseman in Edler.

I know there is zero chance gillis would try this move in our market unless the fans as a majority were o with it. But would you be ok hypothetically ok with gillis moving an aging Kesler and a struggling Edler for a David Backes?

Just wanted to bring this into the discussion and see if or market would be ok with a trade sort of like this.

The blues have shown they are willing to wheel and deal and if they could land Kesler and a very high potential Edler who has been stale in van. Would you be ok with a 25 yr old or younger top end proven center for these diminishing assets.

I'm not saying elder wont bounce back he probably will next season but... Would you as a fan be ok with a somewhat similar move?

Please share your thoughts

** Apologize if its poorly written wrote it at work super tired @ 9:30pm lol.**

I believe Backes would be a good person to consider. He has the size, the power, and the finesse. I would much rather grab a Canadian player though but I am not sure who would be a good available top line center. I just wanted to bring up this topic because there is no way this organization would be able to make a move like this without the support of its fan base. So why not chat about it. Worst case scenario we all say no and we find another way. :)

Please feel free to share your thoughts and get involved in the discussion.

We have a proven #1 center. His name is Henrik Sedin.

I apologize I mean a future #1. Henrik has fairly decently but in the coming years he will likely take on a second line role. Gillis is looking for a top center; perhaps someone who can play with the Sedin's til they take on a secondary role.

I apologize for my lapse of not clarifying that. Will modified original post.

** How do I add [Proposal] to the topic title? Forgot to add that :( **

Henrik isnt being shopped so he will be the defacto #1 center for the next 4 years.

I voted to draft or get young centers via trade and rebuild. The quicker we drop bottom and rebuild the quicker we come out. We have the Sedins , Burrows and Hamhuis to mentor the rebuild so we wont turn out like the Oilers or Sabres.

I didn't realize Backes was 29 lol thats my bad. Not the greatest example :D. Maybe a Malkin? ^^ or Tavares... i doubt Tavares would go though. I really wish we could get like a Sean Monahan though if he continues to show improvement. He isn't a proven #1 center though. Issue is we would need to overpay likely to secure an elite proven #1 high potential center. The reason why I suggested Kesler and Edler is because Kes is aging and Edler is having a hard in our new system. Kind of gets rid of some of our issues and addresses the most important role on any team in terms of offense. A legit #1 Center who can grow and maintain a good compete level with our upcoming prospects. No point getting someone who is 27 when Horvat will be in his prime when the 27 yr old is heading into his twiilight. Malkin is a bit old for the idea though but he is very talented.

Edler isn't "stale" he's had his first sub par season after consecutive seasons of growing improvement. I would not trade Kesler + Edler for Backes alone, that's just poor asset management.

It's doubtful Edler waives any time in the next 2-3 seasons so you'll just have to live with that reality.

Kesler is heading to the Eastern conference if he's moved at all.
