(proposal) youth infusion/ new second line center

Recommended Posts

To van:

Nyi first (4th?)

To NYI:

Van 1st round pick (8-11), hansen

To ana:

Kesler

To van:

Ott first (7-11th overall), ana first (25-29),theodore

Draft picks:

4- dal colle or bennet or drasiatl

7-11th- viratenen or perlini or ritchie or Ho-Sang

25-29th- mckeown or tuch

Sign paul stastny with the money saved from kesler and hansen. Maybe 6 mil a year for 3 years? It is a high price but we need another 2nd line center. This gives three years for our young centers to develop.

Burrows sedin jensen

Sedin stastny kassian

Shinkaruk horvat higgins

Sestito matthias richardson

Not looking too bad after acquiring a mega boost to our future.

Islanders wont take Hansen to drop down to 8-11. They are under enormous strain to keep that pick due to the Vanek debacle.

Ducks might toss us those 2 firsts for Kesler but I would prefer Etem and the Ottawa first.

Problem with etem is he is from cali and would more than likely sign back to a cali team once available. And in the islanders trade I was thinking about adding corrado or another lowernhl ready prospect to make it fair. But hansen really is the type of player the islanders need. We don't need him.

i have a feeling the Gillis will be making phone calls to move Kesler on draft day. At the deadline he was just entertaining offers, but when he has a clear picture of who has what picks and which players around the league might be available then I think he will try and make a deal. Kesler is easily a one of the top 10 2way players in the league, he is easily worth a first and something else in my opinion. We could also save some money to spend, and with Tanev, Kassian, Richardson and Santorelli all finishing their contracts and likely seeking raises we will need extra space.

Buy out booth and we save enough money to resign our depth players and still have money to sign a quality free agent.

If we can get another first preferably top 10 at least top 15 for Kes then i say do it. We need a bold change to really start moving back towards cup contention and that is only done by making bold moves like trading Kesler.

But thats my opinion we will wait and see... though I think its plain to see that something is going to happen this offseason, hopefully its a favorable something.

Your Islanders logic makes no sense.

Outside of Hansen being an UFA why would the Islanders need him?

What is so special about Hansen that a team would pass on Dal Colle, Bennet or Draisaitl to get him?

Knowing the draft positions should make little difference. Kesler was only willing to waive to a few teams and all are contenders. He would just be looking at picks around 20th and later in a draft that is projected to be top heavy.

It's also a different beast at draft day almost all the variables from the deadline change. At the deadline teams were likely much more desperate to get a deal done to strengthen themselves for this particular year but many of the teams rumored to be interested will have changed situations. Detroit was a crippled team, at the deadline they know they will have a healthy Datsyuk and Zetterberg return to the line up along with a much more developed Nyquist. Pittsburgh wanted Kesler to play Sid's wing with Kunitz but that was because Dupuis is out hurt, he will be healthy again and he plays great on that line. Philadelphia is a young team and giving their best young assets more time to develop for them only makes them less likely to get traded. Chi and Ana both seemed vaguely interested but already being powerhouse teams didn't seem motivated to part with their best prospects and likely still won't.

Not to mention if a team doesn't want to pay a heavy price via trade they can just wait until the Free Agency right after the draft. They can give up no prospects or picks and just sign a free agent player like Vanek, Cammalleri, Moulson, Stastny, Jagr, Gaborik, Miller, Callahan, Pitkanen, Jagr, Iginla...and many more possible FA's.

IMO unless MG lowers his asking price Kesler will stay a Canuck at the draft and they will have to bank on him having a good year next season and possibly moving him at next deadline.

I like your idea of moving up in the draft to get a young center who can step in pretty much right away (Reinhart or Bennett) but the only way I can see that is if we get OTT 1st in a kesler trade and moved our two 1st rounders to a team like NYI or FLA. That being said, I would do that in a heartbeat because despite potential of getting two very good prospects in the range of 6-12...having a bonifide blue chip center that can play right away truly gives us a centerpiece to build around. On the flip side, if we are able to get the OTT 1st it's possible a guy like Leon Draisaitl falls to us and we use the other pick (probably around 10) to get a scoring winger like Ehlers, Nylander, Dal Colle, Ritchie, or Virtanen. It all depends on how much better you think Reinhart or Bennett will be then the rest of the draft class.

Honestly, if Kesler is traded to Anaheim we're gonna need both firsts AND Etem for us to even consider trading Kes to them.

Agreed, people are undervaluing Kesler so much. This was the guy logging the most minutes on team U.S at the olympics.

He's a game changer at both ends of the ice.

1) Kesler

for

Etem, 2014 Ott 1st and 2015 1st round pick

2) Edler, Schroeder

for

Schenn, 2nd 2015
