snucks
Have you noticed Torts is all over the place now with his comments. He started in Vancouver by being diplomatic and not angry like he was in New York. Since then he has had quite the eye opener as to what Vancouver is up against. He has continually seen his team get pounded and so many injuries, yet stuck with "his" process. He has seen the way the refs do the games. Mostly he has kept his cool. Now he is starting to attack reporters and analysts. He is even saying some players are better than they are. He has no where to turn. He is stuck in a bad situation. The situation he inherited is the work of MG. Could it be he will still be here next season. He has 5 yrs I understand on his contract. Its not entirely Torts fault. He has I think over thought things at times and tinkered with success instead of riding it till it failed. His plan of having a shot blocking team has injured so many players and really slowed their skating down as they all try to block shots. He has actually been good for the team in that he has exposed it for what it now is; a mediocre, not tough, older hockey team that has some nice guys, and the refs don't care. pinot blanc
I like the quotes from Nash and Kesler when they both refer to the coach letting them play hockey. Torts system doesn't let the creative and quick players play hockey. They are too worried trying to be in their defensive positions, which they aren't most of the time anyways. Jack Fig
Torts is a shaken man these days. I wouldn't have suspected he could come apart to the degree he has.
Zedlee
Torts has been a disaster this year. He overplayed the Sedin's and Kesler, underplayed his bottom 6 and guys like Kassian. The decision to start Lack in the Heritage classic was a total bonehead move...how he could be so oblivous to how the fans felt about Luongo was unbelieveable. And his losing his mind vs Calgary was just plain embarrasing. At first his interviews sounded candid and refreshing; now they just sound like he has no clue and he's grasping at straws. Fail. Time to bring in a new coach.
ramone1984
I find it pretty funny that the title of your thread is *torts is all over the place*....then you proceed on a rant that is hilariously all over the place. You blame Torts, praise him a bit, blame MG, then blame torts a bit while throwing in the caveat that it's not his fault. It'll all be over soon...we'll be statistically eliminated from the playoffs soon enough, then we can start getting exited about next year

YEGCanuck
You want us to imitate the coach-for-a-year approach Edmonton has perfected? Get a grip, Torts is signed for 5 year and it is highly unlikely he going to be paid for staying home until his contract is at minimum is half over. Deadline is April 9 - if there is a serious drop in renewals, I would expect the owners to get very nervous and do something. Firing the coach is easier than firing the GM...although I'd like to see both gone at this point.
MJDDawg
Torts' system basically consists of yelling at players to "try harder" and "work harder".

jdatb
At first I thought torts was a complete disaster, but I think with a few adjustments he's quite a decent coach. Kass has made good strides under his strategy, and players like Santo fit right in with his plan. His biggest mistakes in my opinion was overplaying Kesler and putting the Sedins on the PK. They are getting older and need to be played to their strengths. It's too late to try to make them all round players. Besides these problems, and of course the Heritage Classic fiasco, I think he's done a pretty good job.
Down by the River
If there is one thing Torts is not guilty of, its over-thinking. The guy does not think about the best way to play the game with the personnel he has and the types of teams he'll be playing against. Torts just wants to will his system into success. He wants to define the game rather than letting the game define his 'system'.

And Torts was a coaching jedi in that game vs. Boston. I recall some advanced stats nerd giving us a complete rundown on the brilliance.

rawkdrummer
Enjoy Tort's gong show while you 'can' because he's about to be 'canned'. Honestly he just doesn't get the big picture, he's stuck on himself and everyone around him must succumb to his ways (which haven't worked). He admits himself he only concentrates on his team and the next game. Talk about only seeing trees when there's a forest in front of you.
M A K A V E L I 96
Hopefully he can use this year as a learning experience about the Western Conference. The Sedins and Kesler (if he's here) shouldn't be playing as much as they did this season. You just can't win with all of your top players injured for long stretches and playing them like mules during the 1st half of the season caught up with them.
