zombieksa
The first point I would like to stress is that I love the Sedin twins and they are by far the absolute best players this franchise has seen, I also believe that in the next 4 years they are probably good for 500+ points combined and if they ever left I would cry into my beer. That said I believe if there is an expansion draft in the next few years it may be the perfect opportunity to bring in some valuable assets to the team. If an expansion draft is not announced in the next few months the most likely chance for an expansion will be before the 2016-17 season allowing us to have two more years of Sedinery in Vancouver. The most likely expansion scenario would involve two teams in the west (I still think QC gets a team out of relocation) with one being Seattle and another somewhere stupid in the midwest. Now my thinking is that come an expansion draft and the FA following it may be beneficial to move the Sedins to a team like Seattle via trade as opposed to leaving them available to the draft as that would be terrible mismanagement of our assets. If our team is going through a transition period at this time gaining some valuable assets are a must. In 2016 we more than likely have now lost Kesler and are contemplating re-signing Hamhuis/Bieksa. So lets say during the 2016 expansion draft we move BOTH Sedins to one of the new franchise for: - 2016 2nd rd pick - 2017 1st rd pick - 2017 2nd rd pick -2018 3rd rd pick Or some combination of 3-4 high end picks (This is not definitive value but just an idea of what sort of trade would be involved as the team in question will have little valuable assets aside from draft picks)Why Vancouver does this: - With a transitioning of the team, bringing in valuable young assets to support our new budding stars is a must. - Get assets for two players that in any other situation would retire with the team due to the 14M/package deal situation they come with is unrealistic in any other situation. - Tons of cap space to sign all our RFA's and any UFA's worth paying for. - More ice time for young guns. Why the Sedins agree to do this: - The twins understand that Vancouver and themselves have had a fantastic relationship and both will go down in history as two of the best players in franchise history, getting the franchise that turned them into stars some assets when they are coming to retirement is a great final gesture to the team. - Fresh start, this is especially valuable if the team is still not playing well. - New franchise may still be in pacific northwest. - Continue to play together, only realistic way both could be moved at same time. - Continued top ice-time as opposed to losing it to younger players in Vancouver. Why a new franchise does this: - In 2016 the cap ceiling and floor could be reaching 80/60M and the team will have to fill a roster. - Most players selected in exp. draft are nowhere near Sedin caliber. - From a marketing standpoint bringing in two previously elite stars is huge ESPECIALLY if the team is in Seattle where most citizens already know who Hank and Dank are and are well respected. So in conclusion, depending on where the new franchise is located and the situation of Vancouver's team at the time of the draft I believe this could be the absolute best situation for all 3 parties involved. Maybe it is unrealistic, maybe you think it is a stupid idea, or maybe you will type TL;DR. But with the current position of the team, we will need things to discuss in the coming months... Cheers! slappipappi
An expansion team will not be trading high draft picks, period. They'll be a ton of expensive decent players available in expansion, as teams in a cap world will protect cheaper and younger talent. Plus, I'm sure expansion teams will be exempt for some time of meeting the cap floor. No expansion team will trade for players like Sedin's because players like them won't be protected. I'm not sure if players with NMC will be available in an expansion draft, or do teams have to protect them?

MJDDawg
The twins will be 36 then. And why would they want to start at the bottom again? Regardless, this organization simply won't disrespect them like that. They'd probably simply retire and go back home to Sweden.
Cold Hard Truth
7 million for Daniel Sedin the next 4 years is a serious problem.Gillis is an idiot for the timing of that re-up when he could have got them for 2 years at 5.5 million at this point and we could have had a shot at a good and quick retool. How about trade the Sedins for Bjugstad and Campbell ?Seeing as Gillis cant trade with any other team. The twins get to play out there careers with Lui in FloridaCampbell plays with Garrison again.Bjugstad is a going to be solid, 6'6"Moving Daniel will require taking back a big contract imo. VanGnome
I'm fairly certain that if the Sedins were to be traded east, they would immediately become impact players again in the 80-90 point range.
