Vladdy Jr is going to win AL MVP hands down. He deserves it. He’s chasing the Triple Crown as well. He’s really special.

In other news, with another series win, we are a game back of Red Sox for 1st WC spot. Berrios pitches another gem. Hope we can finish the season off just like how we are playing as of late. Go Jays!

In any other season, I'd agree. But this is the year of Shohei Ohtani....

I think it will probably be fairly close, (and I hope I'm wrong) but my money is on Ohtani.

The Jays played a sloppy game and it resulted in a couple of extra runs for the Rays, but the home plate ump was absolutely brutal tonight.

Both Teo and Valera should have had walks in the 9th, but the ump was apparently possessed by the ghost of Angel Hernandez tonight...<_<

That pitch to Valera was borderline and probably gets called 60% of the time. But the pitch to Hernandez was nowhere close to the strike zone.

Agreed. But those two ABs were only the last two incidents....

He was also squeezing Pearson, giving him nothing on the corners, or at the top of the zone. Then Chargois and Enns come in and all of a sudden, those same pitches are strikes....

I usually shake my head a bit when people blame the officials for a loss and as I said, it was sloppy play (especially wild pitches / passed balls) that were the biggest factors, but the Jays had a real opportunity to come back and some poor calls by the HP umpire made sure it didn't happen.

Yep, look at that overall consistency. Apparently, the worst out of all the umps from last night’s games.

EDIT: Nevermind Dan Iassogna was worst.

....and the plot thickens between the Jays and the Rays...

Anyone who watched last night's game saw Kevin Kiermayer inexplicably run through a stop sign at third and get gunned out by Teo at home in the 6th inning. What we all missed at the time was the fact that a data card was dislodged from Alejandro Kirk's wrist band by KK when he slid in. Kirk didn't notice, but Kiermayer picked up the card and took it back to the dugout.

When the Jays realized what had happened, they sent a bat boy over to the Rays dugout to ask for the card back.....he was turned down and according to Arash Madani, the Jays are decidedly not happy about it.... https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/rays-grab-data-card-shaken-loose-kirks-wrist-deny-blue-jays-request-return/

Right now, I'd put the possibility of Alex Manoah drilling Kiermayer tonight at at least 50%.....Might just be some fireworks tonight at the Trop.....

So the Jays lose, but not before Ryan Borucki plunks Kevin Kiermaier for the "card stealing" incident on Monday....

Despite the fact we didn't see an entertaining game, we did see some Oscar worthy performances by both teams afterward:

Ryan Borucki, claiming that the pitch "got away from him"....

Kevin Kiermaier, acting all tough guy and claiming that it "didn't hurt"....

and the Oscar goes to.....Kevin Cash, for his "outraged" performance to the Umpires, even though the entire world knew this was coming.

The only true emotion came from Pitching Coach Pete Walker, who was genuinely pissed that the Umps felt they could decide what RB's intent was, despite no previous warnings...

Also, a bit lost in the drama, was the fact that KK gave the Jays some bulletin board material, when he all but told the interviewer that he wanted to play the Jays in the playoffs....Sure Kevin, you just took 2 of 3 at home, but the Jays took 2 of 3 last week....

Careful what you wish for,,,,

Baseball be weird.

Manoah gets tossed out of a game and suspended after hitting a batter. No warning given and Charlie gets tossed with a 1 game   suspension as well, even though no warning.

A couple months later and Manoah hits a couple more batters, but isn't tossed or suspended.

So the umps are deciding what is intent.

Last night they decide Borucki deliberately hit the Ray, so they toss him, but Charlie stays in the game.

Consistency issues, just like the strike zone.

Montoyo got a 1 game suspension, which is automatic, as I understand it. John Schneider ran the bench in last night's loss to the Twins.

Borucki got 3 games, but is appealing, so he's still available. TBH, I think he'd be better off serving the next three games in Minny and be available when the Yanks come to T.O., but maybe he thinks he can run out the season and serve it next year....

Rays will tout Montreal plan during postseason with sign

Team says it wants to keep focus on the field but also to get attention for the split-season plan.

ST. PETERSBURG — Rays officials say they want to be “very considerate” in keeping the focus on what the team is doing on the field.

But they are adding a sign to the back wall at Tropicana Field for the postseason to showcase their somewhat controversial plan to split future seasons between Tampa Bay and Montreal.

Team president Matt Silverman revealed the plans in an interview on the This Week in Rays Baseball radio show that aired Saturday afternoon. He said later that they want to wait to unveil the sign at the first playoff game.

“We’re going to add a sign in the rightfield foul territory with a very simple Tampa Bay Montreal graphic,” Silverman said. “Especially with the eyes of baseball on us this October, we want that visible symbol of our plan and our excitement for it. It will mark the effort subtly and keep the focus on winning.”

Silverman said that the split-season plan remains “the best and possibly only chance” to keep the team in the Tampa Bay area long term and that talks have been progressing in the background.

“I’m more optimistic today than I’ve ever been that we’re going to make this happen,” he said.

Citing unnamed sources, Le Journal de Montreal reported Saturday a deal could be announced sometime after the Nov. 7 Montreal city elections, and that “an important meeting” will be held “very soon” in Florida to finalize details.

Under the plan, which includes new open-air stadiums being built in both markets, the Rays would hold spring training and play roughly into early June in the bay area, then shift to Montreal for the rest of the season. Team officials said postseason games would likely be rotated by year.

“We believe in our sister-city plan; Major League Baseball believes in it fully,” Silverman said. “It’s the best and possibly only chance for baseball to be here for generations. That’s been our sole focus. It’s never been about other markets and relocation overtures. It’s always been about how we can make it work here.”

When the plan was first revealed in June 2019, there was skepticism and opposition expressed by some bay area leaders and fans. Silverman said that is now changing.

“There’s been an encouraging shift among our fans and community and a real openness about the plan,” he said. “(Tampa Mayor Jane Castor) was the first official who spoke up and expressed openness, and more voices are joining that chorus.”

Silverman said the team plans to become “more vocal and visible” about the effort after the season ends.

“We’re entering crunch time,” he said. “Our lease here at the Trop expires after the 2027 season. So the time to solve this issue is now.”
