Major major changes needed this off-season. No one is secure.

They were 20 games above .500

They need a legit bullpen and a manager who doesn’t allow a pitcher to stay in the game until he gives up 6 in an inning while they’re in a playoff race.

IMO the Jays are a better team than both the Yanks and the Red Sox. They are not in the playoffs because the GM did not address a pathetic bullpen that was blowing games left and right early on in the season.

This is on Atkins and Shapiro.

Oh well. That’s that. It was a fun ride. We had injuries to key players all year long that hampered our chances, a bullpen other than Romano, Cimber, Richards that lacked a good arm or two. Our rotation was solidified when Manoah, Ray, Matz, Ryu were part of it. Addition of Berrios was nice as well. Nevertheless, it was a good season and something we build off for next season. Bring on the offseason! Go Jays!

Wait'll next year... and all sorts of other sayings.

Yes, this sucks for now, but there is a lot of promise for next year. To a very great extent, I think that there's a very good chance that next year the Jays (with a few additions) will be a better team than the Giants. SF has far too many guys who are one year contracts, on the last year of their current deal, and so on. Add to that that the Giants are an old team, with far too much of the everyday players the wrong side of 27(ish) yrs old. The SF core (Posey, Crawford, Belt, Longoria) are all in their mid-30's.

Jays starting pitching (with maybe an addition) is also looking pretty good, maybe a long reliever would be useful as well as some face changes in the bullpen. Logan Webb looks to be the future for SF, while Cueto is often injured, and Gausman may (or may not) re-sign with the Giants. The Giants do have a couple of pretty good relief pitchers, but there's also a whole lot mystery meat out in the bullpen.

As much as I give Shatkins a hard time. You can’t really fault them for the early injuries to Cole, Phelps, Yates, Hatch, Borucki, and Merryweather. All in a span of a week or so.

That’s a fair point, but I still feel like they waited too long to address the issue. The bullpen was a glaring problem in May and June, and the additions that were made at the deadline proved to be too little, too late. If the bullpen was anything better than a complete dumpster fire for the first couple months of the season the Jays would’ve made the playoffs easily.

I agree. The additions of Cimber and Richards paid immediate dividends. (Brad Hand? Not so much) It's too bad those deals didn't happen sooner.....

As far as Semien and Ray go, they're both going to get paid and I doubt the Jays will be able to afford them. (My money is on Semien returning to the West Coast, on the other side of the Bay)

If I had to guess, I'd say the focus will be on re-signing Berrios and building the rotation around him, Ryu and Manoah. They'll likely have those three at the front of the rotation with Matz (if they can re-sign him) and a starter TBD rounding it out.

At second, I could see Biggio taking over next year, with Espinal and Valera platooning at 3rd.

As much as it sucks to lose an MVP calibre bat in Semien, it's worth noting that this was an offense that couldn't find room for Randall Grichulk and his 22 HRs and 81 RBI. I still think a 5th starter and a better bullpen is more important.

Oh God, the thought of the Jays turning Ray's career around a sharp 180 only to get paid a dump truck load of money to wear Yankee pinstripes makes me want to vomit, yell, and rage quit MLB fandom all at the same time.

I really hope Rogers is willing to pay for Ray.  I agree that Semien is as good as gone, but getting an impact bat at 2nd or 3rd isn't a monumental task.  All that said, if the bullpen isn't taken seriously it'll be all for naught.

If I where to choose between Ray and Semien to re-sign. I’ll probably pick Semien over Ray and find an cheap arm in the FA market. But I also wouldn’t go over 20M a year for him.

Some option on the pitching market.

- Dan Duffy

- Dylan Bundy

- Jon Gray

- Noah Syndergaard (a bit of a risk)

- Julio Teheran

Oh, as much as I dislike the Red Sox.....I never grow tired of waving bye to the Yankees in a season.  Is it just me, or do they seem like the most entitled team in the league under Boone?

Amen. Hopefully the Rays kick the Bosox to the curb in the next round.

Oh yes, and I'm hoping the Dodgers are sent off by the Cards tonight as well.....it's a tough ask, (beating Max Scherzer)....but I would have said the same about the Sox beating Gerrit Cole....
