Tampa Bay is 12-0 and play Boston tomorrow morning 10am on Sportsnet1, the Rays are facing the Blue Jays starting Friday..

It goes without saying this series will be super interesting.  12 and 0 is 12 and 0, but the Rays schedule so far has been Charmin soft.

When talking about the talent on the team across the diamond earlier this week, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch brought up Blue Jays prospect Ricky Tiedemann, raving about how impressed his hitters were with Toronto’s top prospect when facing him this spring.

In his first start of the season with the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday, the tremendously talented 20-year-old kicked the hype machine into high gear.

Facing the Portland Sea Dogs, an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, Tiedemann struck out nine in his three innings of work, allowing just two hits.

The talented left hander worked to a pitch count of 49 and hit 99 miles per hour with his fastball a number of times. In a spectacular start to his outing, Tiedemann struck out the first six batters he faced.

It’s just one start, of course, but there is clear recognition around baseball that Tiedemann has elite stuff. Opposing hitters who faced him in spring training were wowed — as Hinch noted with Tigers hitters who faced him.

While it’s unlikely he’ll ascend to the big leagues until much later in the season — if at all — the hype will continue to escalate the longer the Jays starting rotation has issues.

A third-round selection in the 2021 draft, Tiedemann was shut down briefly during spring training with a mild case of shoulder soreness. He’s back as strong as ever now, however, as his season debut with the Fisher Cats showed.

Meanwhile, we have the terrifying prospect of Berrios facing the 13-0 Rays tonight.....:frantic:

At least Bassitt had a better outing yesterday.  I'd like to see Tiedemann get longer outings in AAA before calling him up though.

I'm not too worried about Bassitt. A guy who can throw that many pitches effectively is usually going to be okay. TBH, I'm more worried about Manoah. Seems to be struggling with his control.....

My guess is that RT will dominate AA for a couple of months and then get moved up to Buffalo. If he keeps progressing, he'd likely be a late season call up.

Another thing to remember is that Ryu should be able to return in the summer as well. Who knows how good he'll be, but it's possible that both of these guys (as well as Pearson) work out just like late season trades.

The Rays are no longer undefeated.....Jays take it 6-3 :towel:

Berrios with a strong outing, but had to leave the game after taking a comebacker off the knee in the bottom of the 5th.....

Probably for the better, because he was getting hit hard by the Rays at that point.

Yeah, small steps....

I didn't get to watch until it was already 6-1, but from what I saw on the replay package, the Rays helped us out quite a bit. Can't expect that to happen very often.

I'm really hoping we get the "good" versions of Kuch and Manoah. Even though it's very early in the season, it feels like we need 2 of 3 so we don't lose sight of T-Bay....

5-2 final, as the Jays survive a scare in the bottom of the 9th....Jordan Romano pitches around a bases loaded situation. Final out was a line drive that he took off the midsection, but stayed with it, picked up the ball and threw out Wander Franco at first....

Another good start by a bottom of the rotation starter. Kikuchi went 6 innings, gave up 1 run on 4 hits and had 9 Ks....

This would be a perfect day for Manoah's  first dominant start of the season.

It sure would....up against Shane McClanahan it's going to be needed.

Knowing the Jays' strange aversion to sweeps and taking into account that they're facing the best pitcher on the current best team in baseball, I'm predicting a loss. That being said, if you told me before the start of the series that the Jays would take two of three, with Berrios and Kikuchi being the first two starters, I would have happily taken it...

Well.....so much for that.

Although I guess it's possible he shuts them down the rest of the way.....

Going to be a 100 pitches by the 4th at this rate.

Another bad start for Manoah. This looks to be a regression year in a big way for him unless he makes some adjustments and battles through this rough patch. The rotation is still too inconsistent to be a true contender in my opinion.

I didn't expect a sweep anyways so on to the next game.

Considering the Rays have been bending over everyone in their path, gotta be happy with a series win.

The Rays don't need to apologize for their schedule so far, but the Blue Jays were the toughest opponent for them by a country mile this year.
