Blowout games like this are always fun. Good to see them sweep a weaker team this time as it seemed like they lacked that killer instinct last year. They are really on a roll, keep it going.

Got to give credit, Berrios and Kikuchi were behind awful last season but really have turned it around. When the starters are all locked in like they are now, this is one of the best rotations in baseball. An absolutely insane run of pitching lately. When they are on, the Jays are very tough to beat.

It wasn't all good news, as George Springer had to come out of the game after being hit in the hand by a pitch....

Of course, that isn't nearly as bad as the news that the Mariners got today.....Robbie Ray out for the season:

https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/reports-mariners-robbie-ray-to-undergo-flexor-tendon-surgery-out-for-season/

Quote

Seattle Mariners left-hander Robbie Ray will have surgery to repair the flexor tendon in his pitching elbow and will miss the rest of the season.

Seattle manager Scott Servais made the announcement before the Mariners played Philadelphia on Wednesday night.

Ray, in the second season of a $115-million, five-year contract, was injured in his season debut against Cleveland on March 31 when he walked five. He threw 91 pitches over 3 1/3 innings and walked five, one shy of his career high.

"In the second inning it felt a little tight, but it didn't seem out of the ordinary," Ray said. "It was a cold night, I just thought maybe it took me a while to get loose in that second inning. I didn't really think that much about it, but after that my arm started to tighten up a good amount."

Ray, 31, has been incredibly durable for most of his career. Aside from the pandemic shortened 2020 season, Ray has made at least 28 starts five times since 2016, including the 2021 season with Toronto when he won the AL Cy Young Award.

Ray is 74-71 with a 3.96 ERA in 10 seasons with Detroit (2014), Arizona (2015-20), Toronto (2020-21) and Seattle.

Seattle made it through last season without a starter missing a turn. Chris Flexen has been filling Ray's slot and is 0-4 with a 10.38 ERA in four starts.

In other beisbol news, the Astros did us a solid by beating the Rays 1-0

BTW: What's going on in Pittsburgh? The Pirates are 16-8 and tied with the Braves for the best record in the NL....

....they're also currently leading the Dodgers 8-1 in the 9th inning....

Jay win it 3-2.

Alek Manoah didn't have his best stuff, but managed to limit the Mariners to 2 runs over 5 innings. George Springer gave the Jays the lead with an RBI single in the 6th. The bullpen was lights out with Mayza, Garcia, Swanson and Romano all going 3 up 3 down and all 4 striking out 2.....

Kevin Gausman starts tomorrow. 11:30 Pacific

WTF is with the Jays' bats when Gausman is pitching?

Right now they're being no hit through 4 by a guy that was just called up from AAA Tacoma.....:picard:

I dunno but it is maddening. Gausman has probably the worst run support in baseball or one of the worst. If he played on a team that can score some runs when he pitches he would be a lock for a Cy Young and would pile up a lot more wins. With the Jays he is just a .500 pitcher.

It always seems when the Jays face off against any random scrub AAA pitcher the bats go MIA.

They just said this kid McGee has only thrown 50+ pitches through 6 innings....that tells me the hitters are way too quick to swing the bats....

Once again the ump costs the Jays an out. Swanson had France struck out, but guy behind the plate missed it....2 pitches  later and it's a walk....<_<

Luckily, Swanson was able to get the next guy....

I missed the beginning of today's game, but according to what I have read, home plate umpire Mark Carlson had a brutal top of the first. Chris Bassitt threw what should have been third strikes to both Jarred Kelenic and Cal Raleigh....both turned into walks and ended up scoring on a grand slam by Taylor Trammell....the only hit surrendered by Bassitt in the inning....

8-5 for the Jays going into the 8th....

Looks like they may have blown this one....Matt Chapman leads off with a double, but Kiermaier can't get the bunt down. Instead he pops it up the 3rd baseman.....then Kirk lines out and Jansen pops out to end the inning.

Going to extras...

Well that was disappointing. Jays bullpen was just garbage today. Why is Bass still being used? He is useless this year, just get rid of him. Should have used Pearson instead. On to the next one.

Yep, the one to Kelenic was brutal. The inning should’ve been over 3 up, 3 down on <15 pitches.

Ultimately the Jays blew a lead that they shouldn’t have, but that grand slam in the first inning never should’ve happened.
