g_bassi13
Anybody know if the Jays retained some of Reyes' salary? I don't believe they did. From Anthopoulos' explanations, the Rockies didn't want to take on Reyes at all, but the Blue Jays forced their hands if they wanted Hoffman as a piece, saying that the trade wouldn't work on the Jays end if Reyes was still on their books. Tulowitzki comes with a larger guaranteed salary for more years, so the Rockies at the very least get out of $25 million or so in commitments. That's where their justification comes in, along with them being really, really high on Hoffman. I think it was a very poor trade for them at the time, and I think that even more so now. I don't know if Reyes' value is negative, but I think we almost have to assume it is. His salary is massive for a shortstop who can't play defence properly any more. I'm sure they've been trying to flip him since they acquired him, but the logistics of it are tough, and they buyers aren't probably knocking down their doors either. From what I guess, they'll have to retain salary in order to trade him for prospects to whomever is looking. It's a better option than keeping his salary in full and just playing him on a bottom feeder in the Rockies for two more years, especially when he's blocking a prospect's potential spot in the order.

theminister
Absolutely terrible job of calling balls and strikes last night. The ump (Mike Estabrook) must be a graduate of the Jim Joyce Academy for umpires.... Probably more like 99 times out of 100. Adrian Beltre is one of the best defensive 3rd basemen ever. That error just further proves that the Jays have some kind of destiny on their side. Not only do they get the win, but virtually everyone chasing them lost last night. Can't watch the entire game tonight (I have a game of my own to play) but a word of caution before we chalk up another W for Price. The Rangers are one of those teams that give Price trouble. He only has 10 career starts against them, but his ERA is over 5. Couple that with Colby Lewis starting for Texas (10-2 in his last 15 starts) and we could have another barn burner on our hands tonight. Might be that we'll need some more of that destiny stuff... The Yanks and 'Stros have a day game today, so we'll already know their result before the Jays take the field in Arlington. We shouldn't have a problem with Lewis. He may not walk a bunch but he gives up a lot of gopher balls and against us that is a dangerous game to play. Lewis can be got to. Price should just need to be decent and the bullpen hold it to one or two runs.
Down by the River
For anybody that watched Sportsnet Central, do you hate Eric Gagne as much as I do? Lots of guys juiced, but not many guys got so sh*tty after they stopped juicing. Once he got caught his career was basically done. Technically, yeah, he still has the consecutive saves record but to me that's one record that really doesn't mean squat. At least guys like Bonds and A-Rod (for the record, I'm a big A-Rod fan) were putting up numbers before steroids and, in the case of Rodriguez, continued to afterwards. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/eric-gagnes-save-record-may-never-be-broken/ http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/dodgers-eric-gagne-hgh-80-percent/ /rant Also, this is hilarious for those who haven't seen it. Sean Monahan
Why is it that I find that civil war soon-to-be-widow extremely attractive? I think she would be if not for the costume and apathetic demeanor. Don't worry, Conan seems to agree with you. Also, I love Conan's reaction when she says her father's passed away. ShakyWalton
I thought Price would have a bit of a letdown tonight..so many good starts I guess he was due......but he could turn it around quick.

TheRussianRocket.
Price is so calm. So nice to have him and when his back is pushed up against the wall, he comes back and neutralizes the threat. Let's get that last out!
