RUPERTKBD
I still think they lose but there's just no quit in this team. Yeah, it looks like one of those comebacks that fall just short, but it's certainly more fun than being no-hit in an 8-0 loss...

ShakyWalton
Two games out and not even at the all-star break. Come down off the ledge RR. Its a good thing the other teams are losing a lot of games as well..Jays havent played well in the last 8-10 games,,,the pitching is brutal lately. the last outlaw
They need to make a move for a starter to help them now. Zaun is saying the same thing. Wake up AA. Sounds like this is Dickey's last season in Toronto Every indication is that R.A. Dickey is in his last year with the Blue Jays, as the team will either use their $1MM buyout of Dickeys $12MM club option for 2016 or Dickey may just retire. The 40-year-old knuckleballer had a tough start today against the Tigers and now owns a 5.02 ERA over 107 2/3 innings this season. Jays have interest in Jeff Samardzija The Toronto Blue Jays have interest in Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Heyman reveals that Samardzija is on the list of the Jays, who are much more focused on enhancing the rotation than the pen. Pull up a chair, Blue Jays rumors are officially in season. Torontos interest in the towering right-hander is becoming an annual tradition, as few general managers in baseball cling to their past targets like Alex Anthopoulos. Even if it hes forced to take the long road, Anthopoulos loves to circle back. Samardzija was one of the most prized targets leading up to the 2014 trade deadline after surging out of the gates with the Chicago Cubs. His 2.83 ERA through 17 starts in Chicago tempted the Oakland Athletics to make a deal as part of their all-in push, sending top prospect Addison Russell back in the blockbuster. Now that Samardzijas value has regressed back to reality, Anthopoulos may find the price easier to digest. The 30-year old has seen his strikeout rate regress slightly in 2015 while his hits-per-nine has climbed to an ugly 10.2. His 4.56 ERA and 1.316 WHIP dont encourage great confidence, but this is the blueprint of a situation where the Jays could buy low on a talented arm without being forced to unload several of their top-15 prospects. Heyman suggests a deal between the two clubs centred around Max Pentecost, the Blue Jays top catching prospect and first round pick from one year ago. With Russell Martin in the fold for four seasons past the current one, many have circled Pentecost as a potentially expendable asset. Im more hesitant than most, however, given that he plays a premium position and could still have value within Martins contract due to his plus hitting tool. Assuming that Samardzija can move his stats in the right direction, his greatest value to a team like the Blue Jays may be his ability to consistently work deep into games. In his last five starts, Samardzija has recorded inning totals of 7.1, 7.0, 7.0, 7.0 and 7.1. This would clearly limit bullpen strain while allowing for Torontos high-flying offense to play a leading role. Heyman does tuck another Blue Jays nugget into his piece regarding one of Torontos more talked-about trade chips. Dioner Navarro renewed his interest in a trade this week. Hed like to go somewhere to catch, if possible. The Diamondbacks, a logical landing spot, said no, citing Jarrod Saltalamacchias presence. The unfortunate reality is that, barring a rash of injuries, Navarro may not have much value around the league. He lacks National League appeal due to the absence of the DH spot and has not done enough at the plate to increase his value past what it was several months ago. Hamels would prefer not to be traded to Toronto. As Blue Jays rumors begin to trickle out of every crack, one name continues to come up: Cole Hamels. The Philadelphia Phillies very loosely resemble a baseball team, let alone a professional one, making their impending yard sale a logical match for the pitcher-needy Blue Jays. According to a report from John Heyman of CBS, however, the interest may no longer be mutual. There is a list of nine teams that Hamels can be traded to without requiring his approval, and the list does not include Toronto. In recent weeks, though, reports on Hamels have been all over the place regarding his willingness to come north. This back-and-forth has made the rumor exhausting, but the Heyman report suggests that his openness to a Blue Jays deal was more about not rocking the boat. Heyman notes the reports that Hamels would consider the Blue Jays, but goes on write that Hes just trying to say the right thing,, quoting someone in the know who knows hes already told the Phillies hed rather not go to Toronto. Last week, Shaun Doyle wrote about the situation at that time, which remained optimistic as Hamels had not outwardly said no. Whether we should take this latest change of tone as the gospel remains to be seen, but at this point, the Blue Jays may find that their time is better spent looking under rocks elsewhere. Now 31, Hamels is earning a $23.5 million salary this season. Thats the same number he will earn over each of the next three years before a team and vesting option in 2019, which would be his age-35 season. Does the hefty financial commitment lower the value of Hamels on a market stacked with short-term rentals, or do the added years of control make him a more attractive asset? With the Phillies on the other end of the phone, its a fools mission to guess. While an arm like Jeff Samardzija, who we discussed earlier today, may cost just one of the Blue Jays upper-level prospects, a pitcher like Hamels would cost several. When Alex Anthopoulos aims big, rival general managers will begin to reply with names like Jeff Hoffman, Daniel Norris, Dalton Pompey and Sean Reid-Foley. As they should. It seems as if this is year nineteen of the Cole Hamels trade speculation, and its only going to gain steam over the next four weeks. Regardless of how wide the gap grows between he and the Jays, the link will continue to be made, but frankly, Hamels in a Toronto uniform is beginning to seem entirely unrealistic. Sean Monahan
^^^ dammit, I was just about to comment on the team's interest in Samardzija but you beat me to it. Brady & Walker saying on the show that AA is "very" interested. I like Samardzija and if he can find last year's form, or even close to it, he could do wonders for the 2015 Jays. Sean Monahan
I agree..I was hoping they grabbed him last year. At the time I was too but in hindsight the offense crapped out anyway so the trade would've been a little useless. Fingers crossed, though, the offense looks legit this year. g_bassi13
Would depend on what it takes to get him. Would have been nice to have gotten him last off-season. Better late than never, even if he may not be the best option available. More affordable than hamels, presumably.
