Players Need Competition

Okay now with a almost healthy team we can finally see some depth rounding out on this team.

Going into next season Gillis/other needs to bring in top 6 guys to create some competition. Kes and Sedins are a lock but we need to push the other guy's like Burrows, Kassian, and Jensen.

Our defense of course could use a healthy Tanev but Corrado and other's need to be given an opportunity to push for top 4 jobs. The players can't take everything for granted!

Burrows doesnt need to be pushed man, he is not a lazy player lol

Jensen and Kassian are young and showing promise, they need oppty, they too have shown no signs of laziness. Kassian is showing he is starting to put it all together and is on pace for his best season, off the third line with almost zero pp time.

Jensen needs to learn much as kassian did.

Competition is needed for the Sedins and Kesler - to teach them they need to be difference makers like they are paid, or others get their ice. If you look at all the teams in the playoffs, their elite players play elite more than not. Our elite players this year have not

Horvat, Shinkaruk, Fox or a free agent signing could create some competition?? ...

I'll leave out your last word, but where do you think those 3 will be other than training camp pushing for spots? A free agent signing is easier said than done as well, since the cap rising would make for some pricey contracts. But I guess Gillis just hands them out like candy, right, so no reason why he can't just sign someone at will.

If you can't provide a reasonable suggestion for how the team should go about getting the things you're asking for, then you should expect to be questioned on the plausibility of your post.

Horvat, Shinkaruk and Fox will make the roster next year for sure

Fox is a beast 12 points in just 4 playoff games in the OHL playoffs

We can't forget Gaunce he looks promising 8 points in 4 playoff games

Bright future for those young guns

I just suggested that those guys could/should be given ample opportunities to play in the top 6 next year. Giving them their 8-9 games or whatever would really push some of our vets..

Unless there's some drastic changes I only see 1 of those guys making the jump to the big leagues next year. Of course more the merrier...

I'm pretty sure Gillis will just run out to the Top 6 forward store and pick up a couple. Oh wait.....

Other teams find them? I know he's had problems with this but it's because he's over spent signing an abundance of third liners and has far to many players with NTC's that are over paid.

While I agree there's a bright future for them, the chances more than one of them make the roster from the start next year aren't very great let alone three. It's a big step from dominating the OHL to playing well enough to keep a job in the NHL.

Not in the original post you didn't. You can't just say, "oh, well I meant..." and then call someone a douche. And again, who was saying they won't get their chances to impress in training camp? If they show enough then, they could get some actual NHL games - but not until they do show something that warrants it.

Care to share some examples of players we could have gotten and what their contracts were? Or are you thinking the good top 6 players get signed for cheap and don't ask for NTC/NMCs come July 1st?

I didn't suggest it in the original post, your right. But elvis dude you take these boards waaaaay to seriously. Your not one of those team 1040 "I know everything" guys are you!?

Anyway, the kids should be give every opportunity to perform and make this team. (Hopefully top 6) This will create friendly competition and well guys like Burrows and Higgins will need to earn their minutes night in night out.

I think the only guy in the Top-6 that really needs to be challenged is Daniel. He's been pedestrian without his brother, and for the salary he's getting we simply can't afford that. We should have two magicians, not one magician and his rifle, which doesn't operate without the magician.

Kes - competitor like no other (except maybe Mike Richards or Jonathan Toews, you know fiery leaders who have Cups)
Hank - still a solid play-maker and leader
Burr - was snake-bitten like crazy and may be getting older but he still shoots a lot and battles.
Jensen - talented, just needs more experience
Kass - played better already, plus he should be Zack Passian with how he dishes them assists.

Can't our players just not want to suck? Why do they need to be "pushed" to actually play good. If that's what it takes for them to compete trade the lot of them.

 Lemme introduce you to someone... he's kind of wise

NO ONE plays to suck! (Well maybe the Flo... never mind, scratch that). Male athletes, being testosterone-driven, are some of, if not THE most competitive bunch. To say some guys "want to suck" is an insult to all their hard work in training and giving their all out there every night, and you should be ashamed for short-changing their hard work.
