Canucks SEASON finally OVER

WHAT MADE me more angry at LAST NIGHTS game was the fact that absolutely nothing was done for TEEMU.

This organization can put his picture on their website so that everyone will know: SEE TEEMU play his last game in CANADA.

Apparently there was something on the screen in the arena last night for about two seconds that nobody except one person in our section even saw and I sit pretty close to the ice. I sure didn't see it.

Even a 20 second tribute would have given TEEMU what he deserved for being the classiest guy in hockey. A STANDING OVATION. For sure in Winnipeg he would have gotten that and even more but did any of you see what CALGARY did for him and he got a standing ovation there.

Even TEEMU gave up playing in Edmonton on Sunday so that he could play in Vancouver because he doesn't do back to backs. WELL, we can't redo this lack of class. I am boiling at this more than the loss from last night that eventually would have come anyways.

A career, season ending tribute to a generational player who has given a great deal to a professional sport is what teams with class do to recognize the brilliance of a Teemu Selane. It would have been an appropriate show of respect from a hockey mad audience and would not have cost much in time or money.

Well the management is just hanging by a thread and so consumed with the failure of the team they forgot about class. We did get to see H Sedin, Bieksa, and I think Edler, give up the puck, in their own end, as well as Ref not calling the Ducks for closing a hand on the puck in the crease. The kind of thing we have become used to in Vancouver since 2011.

I havent posted in months. It's actually refreshing to me that we arent in the playoff picture this year. I am excited for change. It is coming. A starting goalie, sniper and top 6 dman are hopefully on there way here with all the cap space next year. The firing of gmmg will soon be announced i am sure, and the offseason should be about as active as we have ever seen it this year for this franchise. 32 years old, been a nux fan for 25 years. Excited for change. Youth. Excited for a new system. I feel bad for te season ticket holders hopefully head office does something about prices for you guys. Believe.

The season is not over!

We still have time to get the #5 overall pick!

DIVE FOR #5!

Markstrom gets the next 3 starts

Bench the top 6 and top 4 D

No, no, no, keeping them in will almost guarantee the three loses. lol :emot-parrot:

A significant % of Canuck fans still seem to think that with some tweeking that this group can be CUP competitive. I simply do not see that. Van has 3 legit top 6 players with the Twins and Kesler. They have faced injury challenges but also leadership challenges. Tweeking might get this group back in playoffs but they will not be serious challengers.

Gillis: My initial reservation with Gillis was that his NHL career was cut short and that his experience as a agent was not about asset management. I liked the fact that Gillis had a NHL career which neither Nonis or Burke did. The best GM in Van's history, Pat Quinn, had a NHL career. I say all this because IMHO it makes a dif when gut decisions have to be made.

Torts: Torts has done a decent PR job this season but his personality is not what I look for in a coach. His body language and verbage does not create a positive environment.

Timeline: If any of the above make any sense then Van ownership has decisions to make. I expect one of Gillis or Torts are gone or both. If Gillis goes then I suspect the new GM would have the decision about coaching. The deciding factor has to be a rejigged team development timeline and the people required to bring it forward. Reset the timeline to the 23 - 25 age group, sign and trade players to compliment that age group. Keep vets who can help that process. The history of the Canucks is their inability to convert aging vets into future assets. Major pieces have been allowed to walk away with nothing coming back. Van currently has a huge potential in this area of vets who could bring back prospects and draft pics.

As always the Van market is the challenge. Does a realistic assessment and retooling go down with fans who want a winner every year. I often question the hockey smarts of many who think it can happen over night. If this is the way to go I suggest that Linden might be one who has enough goodwill in this market to take on a retool. Who knows if he is interested?

You've made some good points here. I agree that Van has some great opportunities to acquire some younger talent. Fans undervalue many of the vets, but I think they are still valued by other teams. If we can get a good return on a couple of these guys, I think the GM has to let them go.

IMO the fickle Vancouver fans could withstand a retooling, but not a rebuild. The owners would also not stand for it.

Just two or three moves and the team is back on track; playing competative and entertaining hockey. They have some decent prospects coming up, so I think they shape the team into a contender in about 3 years.

Pretty much zero teams have 6 "legit" top 6 forwards. Most contending teams have 4, maybe 5 if they're VERY lucky and complimentary "tweener" guys to fill the remaining spots. We currently have 3 as you stated.

A UFA or trade and a prospect ready to take that step and *poof* a "contender" top 6 again.

I honestly think our biggest hurdle may be our log jam of similarly competent but not exceptional D (and how they've been used).

Agreed .. we need a PMD and 'crease clearing beast' on D .. easier said than done unfortunately.
