Mr Aqualinni was the guy that wouldn't renew BB contract ( polite way of saying he fired him ) then he fired his replacement Dave Nonis and this has now been followed by firing Gillis.....the question is should Francisco be the guy in charge of hiring the next GM. Mr Aqualinni of all people seems the least qualified to make further hires

Unless I am mistaken, Aquilini purchased his stake in the Canucks after Burke was let go.

He's the owner of the team... That's the only qualification you need to hire the GM.

I'm not saying you're wrong. I agree that Aquilini doesn't seem to have a great hockey mind and may not make the right decision, but it's still his company. Who else is going to pick the incoming President/GM, one of the people that will be reporting to him?

I spoke to FA at the time and he told me BB was asking to much and didn't want him ( BB was asking for $1.8 million ) of course BB left for Ducksville and won a cup :picard:

 Yeah he won in Anaheim because of his superior GMing which has since made TO and Calgary cup contenders too. It didn't have anything to do with the NHL trying to make a winner in the Cali market.

Huh?

Burke's last season with the Canucks was 2003-04. Aquilini purchased a 50% share in November of 2004. That would be after Burke's departure.

Aquilini had nothing to do with Burke's departure.

Well I can tell you FOR SURE that I spoke to FA about letting BB go and he was all for it...it was FA that told me of the salary demand BB was asking for ( how else would I know ? ) that I can guarantee. If you don't wish to believe that....well that's your problem. I have no idea when FA sphere of influence started. Any way the point is his hiring history isn't great especally if you include Tortorella ( according to rumour )

You know you're right we had that other American spokesman ( a non hockey guy can't recall his name ) for McCaw running the club but I'm guessing the sale of Oraca Bay was in motion and things were being past through the prospective new owners... what ever I can assure you FA wanted BB out !!

What, you didn't speak to him personally about the Tortorella hiring, but you did speak to him about not keeping Burke which happened before he owned any share of the team?

I do agree with your point though. I wish they would just hire an actual hockey guy to be the president and to run the team.

 Yeah I was surprised FA didn't call....I know what I would have told him
