The CAD's natural trajectory is up vs the USD but the Central bank of Canada tends puts downward pressure on it anytime they think it gets too high. This is behavioral economics and Keynesian economics at its very worst. And they sell this devaluation to the public by saying that it keeps the countries exports more competitive by under cutting other countries. Yes, that is true. But think about it this way. If a company cuts their wages to their employees, the company will be able to undercut their competitors for market share. But is that good for the employees ? Nope. But that is what our central bank is doing. Undercutting our wages by devaluing the Canadian dollar. A weaker dollar means imports are more expensive. This .90 vs the USD is likely the bottom. The CB of Canada can only fight the market for so long. The CAD will return to parody or more rather soon.

It says their one year change was 100% How is that possible. Does that mean it's doubled in value every year
terrible.dee
Isn't there some CBA provision for that? At any rate, it can't be worse than the 90's and the 65 cent dollar. EVERY team in Canada (Except the leafs) were rumored to be moving.
nuck nit
The Federal Reserve is a private bank representing the world's weathiest under the guise of America's central bank. The Fed was created on Jekyll Island to take control of America's money supply. The USD is their vehicle and the USDX is a trade weighted index in relation to a basket of foreign currencies,in which the CAD comprises 9.1%.The US' owners also own Canada and the BoC is a lackey that is subordinate to the masters. The USD is in danger of imploding and the reserve currency -Federal Reserve fiat dollar is destined for the trash heap of history.Don't worry about the 9% the US Fed enjoys over Canada. America is in deep doo-doo.

denniskearns
This would be an issue if the majority of the American teams had the same ticket demand and a stronger dollar than here. Thing is, you can still see deals in many U.S. markets where they'll offer something like 2 tickets, parking, a hot dog and drink for under $100. (some promos are a lot less). So I don't know how those markets can afford to spend to near the cap and the Canucks can't--even with the exchange. Add to that the fact that they've spent pretty much at the cap up to now--with no sense that this was some sort of hardship--and the new Canadian tv package that goes to all the teams and I doubt they'll be suddenly trying to compete with Florida for league tightwad status. ice orca
It's just a way to adjust the trade imbalance, the dollar was high Canada took a hit on exports to the US, the dollar is adjusted we export like crazy. The US is our biggest customer, it will go like this for awhile until the lobbyists for some sectors in the US economy or Government start screaming. Rush17
The doom and gloom has started. We are past that though. We are entering into the most exciting era of Canucks history. We have Trevor freaking Linden looking out for our organization. We know for a fact he has our team s best interest in his heart. Plus he is one of the smartest player turned Presidents in the league. He s got us covered and dont worry FA will spend to the cap without hesitation.
