http://blogs.theprovince.com/2014/04/09/editorial-lying-to-fans-is-no-way-for-linden-to-win-their-trust/

In recent days, many people have expressed the view that Trevor Linden had a lot to lose if he took a job in the Canucks’ front office. He’d quickly find, they warned, that he’d lose his Golden Boy status from his previous on-ice heroics once saddled with the dreadful chore of running a club that seems to find new ways every year to break its fans’ hearts.

Linden, who was appointed the Canucks’ new president of hockey operations on Wednesday, didn’t even have the job before he began the process of damaging his own reputation by lying to the public when asked if he’d been approached by the team to take on the job.

In an interview with Global B.C. on Tuesday, Linden denied he’d been in discussions with the Canucks about taking the job and said there were no imminent announcements.

“When teams struggle, there is lots of speculation. I have been rumoured to be doing a lot of things,” he said, adding he enjoyed running his own businesses. Linden said he called back later to apologize, but the damage has been done. How will anyone trust what he says in the future?

Linden has been hired to douse the flames of fan anger at the team’s lousy performance, especially season ticket holders. He’s been hired to return confidence.

Lying to fans as your first action is no way to win support.

I dont know what it is with the media in this city..but they are the biggest buzzkill around,, they never miss an opportunity to dump on someone or something.

What is Trevor supposed to do..say what was happening before Mike Gillis actually knew himself..what a load a crap..great article/editorial the first issue after Trevors hiring.

To bad we couldnt fire them.

They are just doing their job like anyone else. If they have nothing to write about they make no money and equally writing about the same crap 50 other reporters have at least they are trying to be a bit creative.

Also, i want to underline that this (the "article") is pure crap.

The Province is a pile of crap anyways.

"Linden, who was appointed the Canucks’ new president of hockey operations on Wednesday, didn’t even have the job before he began the process of damaging his own reputation by lying to the public when asked if he’d been approached by the team to take on the job."

Yeah, sure. Or he could damage his reputation AND his chance at the job by doing exactly what Gillis last did before being fired: spilling too much information to the media. Give me a break.

In Trevor's presser this morning, he was asked a question regarding this. He basically said that out of respect to Mike Gillis and his family that he unfortunately had to deny any reports. Listen to his interview and he makes it pretty clear he said what he said out of respect to Gillis, as this question had been asked the exact day that MG had been fired.

Yeah, the media pretty much put him in a position where he HAD to lie.

yep..and he felt really bad about it as well,, he phoned Randene Neil and Steve Darling and apologized later,,saying he had no alternative.

Classy move, but doesn't surprise me in the least. Hopefully the media learns sooner than later that assassinating Linden's character won't work so well.

Can someone confirm that Darren Stone wrote this article, because I find it fitting that whoever did write it didn't have the guts to put their name on it.

This is all it says.....

Editorials are unsigned opinion pieces that represent the views of The Province editorial board, a group of senior editors.

The editorial pages editor is Gordon Clark, who can be reached at gclark@theprovince.com. Letters to the editor can be sent to provletters@theprovince.com.

Can't say I'm surprised. There's nobody at The Province with enough guts to slag Linden without the cover of anonymity.

Except Botchford, maybe.

I just read this crap at the laundromat...what a big load of crap it is at that.

Do these drama queen writers ever find happiness in life? Contentment. My God, they complain more than 14 year old girls who can't find their lip gloss.

Trevor was put on the spot...that segment was NOT scheduled to deal with hockey related stuff and got thrown in there last minute when developments were underway. But he did the right thing...it was not his place to make an announcement as it had to be done officially, after fair removal of MG.

I hate that paper now...I don't read it or buy it ever anymore and, as stated, skimmed it while doing laundry. Good thing it's camp season we can use this garbage to start camp fires.

I'm going to write in response to this. I feel lied to everyday by this garbage they try to pass off as reporting.

Frack this stupid media. They really are so fracking annoying like holy crap. Go smoke some weed, chill the frack out! :@

The jackass who made the article is so bias telling just one side of the story. Why even acknowledge to the slightest bit the first thing Linden did in the press conference which was say sorry because he had to keep things private and personal? Frack off with you're stupid 'writings'. How some of these clowns even have jobs is beyond me...
