Ufa players linden should target this summer (proposal)

Recommended Posts

Im starting off on defense

Willie mitchell defensive dman can cover up edlers mistakes

Joni pitkanen powerplay qb dependable vet

Mezaros gritty solid d

Goalies brodeur or vokoun to help mentor lack and be solid backups

Forwards -

Vrbata help our lack of scoring

Jagr hes the ageless superman

Iginla heart like linden still can get 30 goals

Vanek elite talent

Callahan plays with heart and grit

I hope canucks fire torts, trade or buyout booth, then trade hansen and higgins and edler play with mix of rookies and vets turn around the ship

I don't think Brodeur and Jagr would come to play here, considering travel at their age.

Boston will do everything they can to keep Iggy, and I don't think he'd come to Van out of respect for Calgary.

Vanek if he doesn't want a deal longer than 3 years which is unlikely.

Callahan would be perfect but he'd be asking for first line money which I don't think he should get

Vrbata is interesting, kept out of the spotlight in PHX, but a consistent 20-30 goal scorer. If the price is right for a 2 year deal, sure.

I'd rather actually pick up a young stud D (preferably Pouliot) through trade of either Kesler/Edler and have Mitchell solidify that pairing. THAT would be exciting for me.

The only other UFA I want is Cammalleri or Vanek. I would prefer Cammalleri though since he is a big game playoff performer historically. The team NEEDS skilled goal scorers. And he would be perfect with Horvat or whichever young C makes the team.

Whichever UFA the team goes for, they have to be able to contribute because Vancouver still is a good team. This is not an Edmonton rebuild. They also need to hopefully compliment the youth that we have coming up.

Well if LA doesnt want him...

@Willie_Mitch33: Congratulations to my old teammate and friend @trevor_linden It's his time, he's ready. @VanCanucks #solidhire #hesgoingtomisshisskitouring

Not sure what he has left thought.

Defensemen usually have long careers. He has played 75 games, and still has the occasional 24+ minute game. He was never a super offensive player, his defensive game hasn't seemed to slip at all.

Meszaros for around $3M would appeal to me. If the team can move Edler for help up front and then pair Andrej with Garrison I think we'd have a very solid group in the back end.

Hamhuis - Bieksa (strong minute munching top pairing)
Meszaros - Garrison
(Andrej's a very good puck-mover, and both he and Garry can play both sides and bomb, so with them the PP looks quite lethal!)
Stanton - Tanev (shutdown unit with upward mobility)
(Weber, physical D)

I'd agree with the veteran goalie to tandem with Lack, and Vrbata/ Jagr/ Vanek/ Iggy would all look good here. Radim could become Anson Carter 2.0 with the Twins, and Jagr/ Iggy would be invaluable leadership additions. Suffice to say Vanek would be good, but having three $7M forwards may be too top-heavy, when we also have a bunch of $5M and $4M guys and kids in the future will want to re-sign for money in their prime years. It may not be good cap management to tie so much money and term in a couple players, but I guess it depends on what moves the new GM makes (if any) to trim the expensive depth.

I'd pass to your other suggestions (don't need Mitchell unless he took hometown discount; Pitkanen's damaged goods, Callahan won't improve the forward group's skill too much).

I like this no doubt, good post. Shink should be on the third, Burrows replacing Gaunce, and maybe Gaunce on the 4th. But I would see Shink Burrows and Gaunce always rotating lines like coaches love to do.
