Lets just suppose the Sedins waived their NTC.....what type of return would you expect?

I know this will never be asked of them but I was listening to a Los Angeles Sports Talk channel this weekend and they were discussing the major haul Linden would get for them.

A first, two roster players and a couple of prospects?

Thoughts....

Well, they are $1.8 million over paid based on their production.

They should be in the Jeff Carter range, except they are older.

What did we get for Schneider?

Plus, they would have to be sent to the same team - would they give up a first round pick 2 years in a row?

The Sedins aren't going anywhere.

Philadelphia tried to move both Carter and Richards to Columbus a team that cannot attract FA's and has made the playoffs once in their history only to get swept. Both Richards and Carter were 26 at the time and in the prime of their careers.

The asking price was 2 1st round picks, 1 prospect, 1 roster player, 1 3rd round pick.

Columbus said no and only pursued Carter stating that the price of 2 star players was simply to much and would gut their talent pool. This turned out to be a fact as the two 1st round picks turned into Sean Couturier and Douglas Murray, the prospect was Ryan Johansen, the roster player was Jake Voracek, and the 3rd round pick was Sean Cousins.

The Sedins are going to be 8 years older than what Carter and Richards were when this was offered and they are going to be making 4 million more than the combined price of Rich and Cart. In addition it also appears they are declining. This eliminates much of the market as many teams cannot afford both contracts and many teams who are not legit contenders won't want to risk giving up so much when they are far from a cup now. And of course like the reason Richards and Carter were not moved together teams simply don't want to give up that steep a price even for a good return.

The best option would be to move them separately if possible. Otherwise the Canucks would have to compromise and move them both for a discounted price and make up for it by taking advantage of the freed up salary cap they get.

Realistically I think the most a team would offer is 1 top tier prospect, 1 1st round pick, 1 2nd round pick, 1 roster player. Maybe some minor throw ins. But I just don't think any team would be willing to give up more.

Pittsburgh: Maatta, Bennett, Pouliot, Sutter, 2 1sts, 2nd

Detroit: Tatar, Jurco, Mantha, DeKeyser, 1st

St. Louis: Tarasenko, Schwartz, Shattenkirk, Rattie, 1st

Montreal: Gallagher, Tinordi, Eller, Beaulieu, 2 1sts, 2nd

Lets just say we'll gladly hang on to them if teams aren't willing to pay the price, which will be substantial.

I have put some thought into this and come to this conclusion. They are virtually worthless at 7mil each. Why? They wont waive to a bottom feeder. A team must have established talent as well as a place for them on their top line or second at worst. And they would play the first unit PP.

That team must have 14mil cap space or dump lots somehow . There is a solution to fit all the criteria. Keep 50% of their salary (yes. 3.5 for each Sedin for 4 years) Now, 3.5mil dollar Sedins become highly attractive. Now they just need a team to bite on it.

The perfect place is the Nashville Predators. This team has excellent mobile defense, as well as an NHL elite goaltender , fantastic grinders and established 2nd line talent. With the twins, the Predators are now legitimate contenders. Dark horse but nonetheless their fanbase will be way happier.

Price tag? Seth Jones and their 1st in 2015 . Unprotected.

So we're DUMPING them now? Despite one down season people know how good they are, and what if they become 70-80 point guys again? We'd lose lots of production, plus if Nashville wants to get them and not shed too much salary why not give us Fisher and one of Hornqvist/ Smith/ Wilson as part of the deal? We'd be happy to oblige (Jones is on his ELC so of course they'd "have to" take back all that salary but it'd be more of an exchange of salaries if some of Fish/ Smith/ Wilson and Forsberg came back).

The Only team that would consider giving the Canucks fair value would be the Islanders;

Strome, Hamonic and 2014 1st, 2015 1st. That's fair value...

Unless they trade for that 2015 pick back from Buffalo not likely to happen, what other decent prospects could they throw in for that 2015 pick since they likely won't have it? I'd ask for Reinhart instead of Hamonic. Then use that 2014 pick for Sam. New set of brothers.

Strome Reinhart 2014 1st which is 3-5 overall (not sure about standings right now) and other prospect for the Sedins, fair? Seems unfair but I tend to over value Canucks.

Gives us Bennett, Reinhart or Dal Colle with their pick and hopefully Virtanen with our pick. Two really good prospects, and possibly a lesser prospect for the Sedins. I like it, but I love the Sedins...

None of those teams would make those deals. I'm happy you'd gladly keep them because the fact of the matter is that no one is going to gut thier team to aquire two 33 year olds that can't and won't play apart and that have been trending downward not just this season but over the last 4.

I do think they will rebound from this years performance, but not to the level that justifies giving away the quality assets you're suggesting PLUS having them eat up 14M in cap space.
