It was interesting to listen to Linden talk about the GMs and team presidents who've reached out to him since he assumed control of the Canucks. Gillis - how shall we say? - did not enjoy a good working relationship with his colleagues in the big offices. His personality had a lot to do with that, and you can draw your own conclusions about the role that played when Gillis was trying to make a trade.

An NHL general manager who was not Dave Nonis was once asked how Gillis was perceived around the league. "The fact that you have to ask that question tells you all you need to know," he said.

Boston Bruins assistant general manager Jim Benning has been installed as the favourite for the Canucks' GM position, but a name to keep in mind is George McPhee, who may be out of Washington as the Caps' GM. McPhee has a history with Linden and the Canucks..

Amazing how McPhee has been able to keep his job in Washington for as long as he has.

If he's out in Washington, I don't want him as GM here. Much like Gillis, McPhee is arrogant. He was arrogant when he worked for Canucks before leaving for Washington.

Benning for GM and Trotz for Coach. I was against firing Torts but now Trotz is available I see no reason why to not to go after him.

Trotz has been offered another position within Nashville. Trotz style of play is defensive. He would be no better or different then Torts. Torts hasn't been fired yet, anyhow.

I remember reading something years ago about McPhee was one of the biggest a$$h@%$ in the business.

As far as what other GM's think of Gillis, one anonymous quote doesn't prove much. It might have been someone Gillis had negotiated against durring his days as an agent.

NO to Barry Trotz,

I can't believe anyone on this board would support his hiring.

A Trotz coached product is unwatchable, the Preds have been the least entertaining team in hockey for some time now and there is no way I could support this team adopting that style.

It's not all about wins and losses, this is the entertainment business and until the NHL adopts a long overdue illegal defense rule, I will not support any team who plays like the Preds.

Ill say yes to Laviolette and consider Guy Boucher (he brought Tampa to the conference finals in his first season as their coach; also a young coach which I think the Canucks need), also hoping that Tippett leaves the Yotes....... No thank you to the boring old Barry Trotz, who I think is a calmer version of Tortorella and more defense oriented (as if we weren't already sick of that)

It's all about winning or losing to me. Who cares about the style of play. If we lose a game 9-10 I don't feel entertain at all. Winning is entertaining and losing is not. I could care less we can win every game 1-0 if we can win the Stanley Cup.

Canucks have played very boring style of play the last several years under both AV (following 2011 Finals) and Torts.

Are you kidding?!?!

Boucher???

Do you remember the style of hockey he coached?

1-3-1-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Totally unwatchable hockey.

He embarrassed the entire league in that Philly game where the Bolts refused to forecheck and Philly refused to move the puck in protest.

No no no to McPhee. He's an idiot. I actually just read an article about how McPhee is a big reason why Washington has a hard time attracting free agents. Apparently he's really hard to work with and agents just hate him so they don't encourage any of their players to go there.

EDIT: Found the article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/capitals/washington-capitals-problems-began-long-before-their-playoff-streak-ended/2014/04/11/3fc8ede6-c0f5-11e3-b195-dd0c1174052c_story.html

Yes we have and we aren't winning. If we're winning I don't think people will be talking about the style we play. People are putting too much into this topic. If we can score lots of goals that's perfect but if we can't that's fine too as long as we can win.

Look at LA. What style do they play? Who would you rather be back in 2012?

Well you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

However, to me that would be like going to a movie and saying: "I don't care if the script is horrible, the actors suck, and the director is awful, as long as the good guy wins in the end, then I am entertained"

Why the hell is everyone suddenly in love with hiring Trotz??? Yes you can argue he "made a lot with what he had" in Nashville all you want, but did he really? The farthest he got in 15 years was the 2nd round.

You guys all complain about Tortorella's defensive system and want him fired for it because it doesn't suit the team, but then you want to hire an even more defensive coach? If we want to play defensive hockey, why fire Torts in the first place? He's a good coach and has only had one year with this team under terrible management.

@terrible.dee

Ironic, I actually found the 1-3-1 entertaining and they were fairly successful with him.....until the next season. In any case, I still think he's a good candidate because he's a young coach that already has experience at the NHL level. Not to mention, during his tenure, a 40 year old Roloson was their goaltender with no bright spot in the backend at that time....I think he deserves another shot.

I live in LA and I have stopped going to King's games. I only go to Duck's games now.

I won't pay to watch the style of hockey that the Kings play.

Haha,

Well...ok.

I guess we just have different tastes, and you are certainly entitled to yours.

Well yeah. Everyone has different opinions but I dont think that was a fair comparison.

I guess you love the way we got knocked out Game 6 in 2009 aganist Chicago. That was a high scoring game and you must be entertained. But to me that was a heart breaking exit. Not entertained at all.
