MattCanuck
So tomorrow is the lottery an Canucks will be there, so im just wondering if they dont get a top 5 pick, if maybe they should trade up for a good pick an get someone like an ekblad or reinhart. The team has obviously ran its course an its time to rebuild while we still have good players. This has worked for Detriot/Chicago. so back to my question, should a move happen cause i think it would be a great addition an in my thoughts Ekblad would be a great addition due to last year getting Horvat/Shinkaurk and players like Jensen just exploding in positivity an making a big part of the NHL team. Rebuild now while we are good so we dont have to go threw what teams like EDM,CGY or Florida are going threw.
AriGold
Canucks will be at the lottery on TSN ? Last year I thought only 5 teams were represented at the lottery.
The Stork
If they want a NHL ready player then yes yes we should up the draft
MattCanuck
@AriGold well im not sure they will be there then. but they got a 6.2% at 1st overall
MattCanuck
Torts mentioned that the team atm is stale an youth is needed, maybe Trevor will listen an make a trade or they will have a GM by then who will help rebuild a bit
Zoolander
YES!! I think Linden and the new GM will make a bold move and try to snag Reinhart. Just think about how cool it would be to have a born leader like Sam, WHO'S FROM VANCOUVER leading the team in the future. Both him and Bo are also 2 very clutch players and proven winners. They elevate their games on bigger stages. HECK, Reinhart basically willed his team past the Calgary Hitmen series. Not to mention he's a fantastic 2-way player and his Ivan Hlinka AND WJC stats so far are similar to Toews TRADE FOR REINHART
Pears
I think we should. Say Florida wins the lottery and they take Ekblad, we should make a deal with Edmonton so they can move down and take Fleury: Edler, Hansen, and our 1st for Yakupov and their 1st (2nd) _____ - Reinhart - Yakupov Shinkaruk - Horvat - Kassian Fox - Gaunce - Jensen That is looking like a sweet top nine. Just need a top line LW.

Say Florida wins the lottery and they take Ekblad, we should make a deal with Edmonton so they can move down and take Fleury: Edler, Hansen, and our 1st for Yakupov and their 1st (2nd) Edmonton likes Leon as well... Which is who I want.

Rebuild now while we are good so we dont have to go threw what teams like EDM,CGY or Florida are going threw. Now the question is this. Would you do the trade if it required [one of:Horvat/shinkaruk/gaunce]and the Canucks' 6th to acquire the 1st overall?Yes, you get a 1st overall player who historically goes on to be THE GUY the team is built around, but it's all about the asking price. It would be at the expense of a player who's ceiling is really yet to determined PLUS whatever significant piece that can still be had by picking at 6th.I like reinhart and ekblad but I'm not sure if they're of the superstar caliber of an Ovechkin or Crosby. There are first overall picks and then there are FIRST overall picks.
khay
If possible, we should. So many of us talk about getting a hometown guy and here he is, a skilled hometown player who'd love to play for the team. Having said that, if the asking price is too high like 1st+Horvat, then no. If 1st+Shinkaruk, still... I just hope we win the lottery tomorrow and pick Reinhart with the pick. What I don't want is to move up to pick 1st overall just to pick Ekblad. I think the history has shown us that getting a defenceman at #1 overall pick isn't as sure thing as getting a forward at #1. If Ekblad somehow falls to 4~5 range, then we should move up if possible to get him.
FlyLow_
If it can be done by trading a roster player, no touching prospects.. Not selling the farm for kids that wouldn't go top 5 last year or next year.
MRAY
We totally have to trade up. We'll have to wait and see tomorrow to see if we do get lucky with our 6.2% chance of winning the draft lottery. You never know what could happen.
MattCanuck
maybe giving one of the older players, for a decent pick. cause some guys aren't getting better or are just aging. like maybe jansen/higgins with a 2nd idk
Bingo Chili
Price is high to get into top 3. Just wish reinhart drops to 4th or 5th then it wont be that much to move up especially if CGY is high on Ritchie and NYI wants dal colle and theyre willing to move down a spot for small extra asset.
