Mackcanuck
WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Jets have signed head coach Paul Maurice to a four-year contract extension. Maurice was brought in on Jan. 12 after former coach Claude Noel was fired at the end of a five-game skid. The Jets responded well to the coaching change, winning seven of their nine remaining games in January. Winnipeg was 18-12-5 overall under Maurice. "He's an impressive hockey coach but he's an impressive person as well," said Winnipeg general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. "We believe we're just scratching the surface on the impact he can make." The Jets ended the season at 37-35-10 and missed the playoffs for the third straight year after relocating to Winnipeg from Atlanta. http://www.ctvnews.ca/sports/jets-sign-head-coach-paul-maurice-to-four-year-contract-extension-1.1778573 Evander Kane Available? Xbox
If he had been there from seasons start, the Jets had a legit shot at the playoffs.

Wait - is this a thread about Maurice, or Evander Kane? You had to think Maurice was coming back when they started winning after he was hired. They needed to see sustained success, which they had more mixed results in but they looked improved under him for sure.
BlueLemming
Wait - is this a thread about Maurice, or Evander Kane? I don't know about Kane's relationship with Maurice, but maybe speculation was that if 1 stayed the other had to go?
TOMapleLaughs
They boomed for awhile when he came, then trailed off. Meh.
elvis15
I don't know about Kane's relationship with Maurice, but maybe speculation was that if 1 stayed the other had to go? Haven't seen anything on that, other than the consideration they'd fire Noel before moving Kane if there really was any clash there. I don't know that there's been anything to specifically support any similar conflict between Kane and Maurice (or if there really was one with Noel) although we've seen him be a scratch as well as the one team violation for being late to a team function. Long story short, I don't know if there's animosity building between Kane and Maurice to force a trade, or if it factors in otherwise to Maurice being re-signed. DrChill
Great for WPG To Van Evander Kane 9th overall To Wpg Alex Edler ( with a push) 6th overall Kane>Edler Picks balance.
DefCon1
Great for WPG To Van Evander Kane 9th overall To Wpg Alex Edler ( with a push) 6th overall Kane>Edler Picks balance. I actually wouldn't mind that if the consensus top 5 was gone. But it would be harder to give up the 6th overall if one of the top 5 was slipping into 6th. I'd probably wait after the 5th overall is called before making the trade.
Down by the River
It says in the article that the Jets are looking for offense. Why would they trade one of their best offensive players? I don't see them giving up on Kane just yet.
DrChill
I could see them going for a Statsny in the offseason with a big offer to bring him to the peg. He would be a good 2nd line center for them. Moving Scheifele or Little to the wing. Top 6 pick could also get them a offensive player for the future that doesn't have the problems in WPG that Kane has.
