(Proposal) VAN-PIT then VAN-EDM

Recommended Posts

To PIT: Ryan Kesler

To VAN: Derrick Pouliot, Simon Depres + PIT 1st (~24th)

THEN

To EDM: Simon Despres, PIT 1st (~24th) + VAN 2nd (36th)

To VAN: EDM 1st (3rd)

DRAFT: Sam Reinhart/Bennett at 3rd and Dal Colle/Ritchie at 6th

Edmonton needs defence. Despres + draft another defenseman like Honka/McKeown/DeAngelo.

They have Nurse & Klefbom almost ready and Marincin is playing well.

So Kesler and a 2nd in a weak draft for Pouliot and Reinhart/Bennet?

I'd do it. It could set us up with a 1C and 1D for the years to come. As much as I love Kesler, if we are going to trade him now is the time to do so. We shouldn't wait too long or his value will drop. I'm sure Linden and Kesler have discussed his future. If he wants to stay then we should find a way to get someone to help him out, but if not, Kesler needs to go.

If you want to get Edmonton's pick we are going to have to give up 6th overall.

I like the idea, I have been thinking about this as well. If you get Bennett/Reinhart, it opens up a ton of options regarding Kesler. However I think the Oilers want a defenseman that can jump into their top 4 right away. I don't think Despres would satisfy that. I could see Edmonton listening with a package of 6th overall and Tanev (Just because he doesn't have a NTC) for 3rd overall.

If i was Trevor the oilers would have to add to get Tanev..

I think we are better off trading our pick + Tanev to Buffalo or Florida if we are going the 'trade Tanev' route.

Then trade Kesler for Pouliot + Pitt's Pick + ______

Then our Pick + Kesler + Tanev = Pouliot + Reinhart/Bennet/Ekblad + ~25th overall + ______

so you'd trade our best young dman, who would be a first round pick if people knew back then what he'd become PLUS our sixth to move up three spots?

have some more crack champ

I like it but I think the 6th has to go to Edmonton to get them talking. They're going to want Fluery. If we get the third pick I got no problems flipping despres and 6th.

I doubt Pitt coughs up their 2 best D prospects though either. Probably one and someone else. Lesser dman or a forward

Just in general, trading with division rivals is never a good idea. Plus you have to overpay for what you want.

It's a myth. If a trade helps both sides they'll do it. General managers say it all the time, if a deal comes a long that makes their team better, they'll do it regardless of who it is. You don't shoot yourself in the foot and miss out on a chance to improve over a highschool won't talk to him mentality. Calgary and Edmonton have made a few trades in recent years.

The overpayments never happen because it's always over a high profile player and 20 teams are gunning for him. Hockey deals do happen though. If the right deal is within your division, you'll still make it.

Pitt trade is good. We might need to give up a decent pick/prospect to sweeten the deal for PIT though, maybe our 2nd.

Would probably take Despres and our 6th overall to get EDM's 3rd overall.

That would be a great outcome. We would get 3rd overall, Pouliot, 24-30th overall.

In my opinion there is a difference between wanting a player and needing one.

Pittsburg and Anaheim want Kesler. Neither of them need Kesler to keep their fanbase happy . They already have contending teams.

They can lowball the Canucks all day because they simply view him as a luxury. He would have an important but secondary role on their rosters.

The best place to trade Kesler is to a team that needs him. The Columbus Blue Jackets would place Kesler as one of their core pieces and improves the middle of their ice in a dramatic way. We will get an honest return from them if Kesler would ever agree to waive.
