If Edler doesn't Leave

If Edler isn't traded, and the D core is the same. Where should they play? The Bieksa Edler pairing last year made me cringe every time, they didn't seem to have any idea where each other were.

Dmen

Lefts

Edler

Garrison

Hamhuis

Stanton

Rights

Bieksa

Tanev

Corrado

Weber

Personally

I like the idea of

Hamhuis Bieksa (old pairing that worked so well for so long)

Edler Tanev

Garrison Corrado

Feel like it is important to have everyone on their strong sides. Wouldn't mind trying Corrado with Edler as well.

What are your thoughts?

I have said it before TRY EDLER AT FORWARD!!

Why not give it a chance? I honestly think it has potential to work out so well. He has the size, skill and good skating ability to make it work. I just wish it was tried out at least.

Edler has always been a great shot blocker because of his big body, and he's still great at blockng shots and he's a legit d-man. Not a lot of shots get by him. The problem is that the skaters are getting by him. He's become unbelievably slow and his offense has dried up. Like the twins, he isn't dangerous with the puck because he's completely hesitant and has to handle the puck a bit before shooting or passing. Slow skating and slow decisions make bad players in general, so he should just focus on being a better defenceman.

I like the idea. Edler needs a stable partner and Bieksa and Hamhuis worked well together in the past. Corrado and Garrison as our third pairing is quite decent. Garrison is slow but he is decent defensively and putting him back to left should help. I like Corrado, he looks like a very smart player.

Having said that, ideally I would like to see an upgrade to our defence.

Hamhuis-Tanev

Stanton-Bieksa

Garrison-Corrado

Weber

Edler

Stanton is a great depth player but in no way is he better than Edler. Even defensive side of the games, I think Edler can put together a better defensive efforts than Stanton as we have seen in the past except this year, he really sucked.

And no Weber. He is below average in almost every category. Not good at defence, not that good at offence, and not good at moving the puck. A decent skater but not really great. As a depth player maybe, but even as a depth player, I would like someone else.

Edler said post trade deadline that... (Something along the lines of) he doesnt want to waive his NTC clause because he signed here with it for a reason, he wants to be here. Canucks twitter tweeted it back after the deadline, but thats a bit too far back to find.

Edit: Found it:)

sportsnetmurph: Alex Edler told me you don't sign a 6-year deal with a NTC so you can leave town shortly after #canucks Don't think he'd waive.

I feel like they should work with Edler again and give him a newer perspective. He has all the tools to be the best.
