BurgerKing
Looking back at past drafts up to 2002, teams haven't been particularly successful drafting wingers in the top ten. There's the can't miss guys like Ovechkin, Nash and Kane. But for the most part its been underwhelming. Even the guys that did pan out are on different teams than the ones that drafted them, eg Ryan, Van Reimsdyk, Wheeler. My theory is the more talented players in junior are going to be asked to play center to maximize their talent and development and increase their responsibility. Large fraction of Centers are converted to wing when/if they make it to NHL anyways. the players perhaps that are wingers in junior are lacking the hockey iq to play a 200ft game or don't want to bother with it. Either way it's a red flag. So maybe Canucks should go for one of the euro centers or Jared McCann.
BurgerKing
Wingers drafted in the top ten in 2002 or after with stanley cup rings are Kane, Ladd and Frolik.
73 Percent
you might "WANNA" put this in the 13 other draft threads we have...
timberz21
So you'd rather pick a euro ??Yakupov, Grigorenko, Forsberg, Niedereiter, Burmistov, Granlund, Parjavi, Filatov, Boedker, Voracek, Frolik, Olesz....All top 10 superstars with multiples cup right? The only exception is probably Kopitar.
Mathew Barzal
Silly argument. But I think at 6th overall I think there's less priority on positional needs and more on the best talent available. That's also why I'm personally on the Ehlers or Nylander bandwagon.
Absent Canuck
Its going to come down to Ehlers Nylander and Ritchie. For me its Ehlers
tas
Also since 2002, the only wingers with stanley cup rings who were drafted in the top ten are Kane, Ladd and Frolik. are you talking drafted since 2002, or won the cup since 2002?
DollarAndADream
At 6th overall I think we should just grab the best talent available. I'm all for Ehlers, Nylander, Ritchie or even Virtanen. If Dal Colle or someone like that drops then them for sure, but that's unlikely.
nuck in cow town
Its going to come down to Ehlers Nylander and Ritchie. For me its Ehlers I would like to see Nylander or Kapanen although #6 is definately too high for Kapanen. Maybe we could also take him #10 like all the other draft threads say!!!! The only exception is probably Kopitar. Complaining about Voracek or Granlund is a little asinine IMO. Also Grigorenko and Forsberg were later draft picks than top 10. Albeit, by a pick or two. Voracek has become a very capable top line player. If that type of player was added to the mix, I'm not sure what the Canucks could possibly want. Yes, a team changing type of forward would be nice. But realistically you're looking at someone in that line of thinking. We'll see what happens.
