Kran
I believe the scouts and GM's were put off by the fact that his last name sounded like Turtle. The very idea that other players would taunt him by calling him Hertl the Turtle were major red flags regarding his future performance
-AJ-
Via Wikipedia: However, Muir also wrote, "Hertl's not the most agile skater or finisher, and he has a tendency to try to do too much."[2] Button stated that Hertl, although not particularly fast, his agility compensates for his speed." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomas_Hertl

Dazzle
what They are obviously contradictory statements. But Hertl, I believe, is "shifty" which may not necessarily translate into top-end speed, ala Raymond, Grabner etc.

CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Skating was the biggest issue according to Pierre McGuire I remember getting "The Hockey News" magazine and the scouts consensus was that he didn't always play consistently.
DeNiro
Skating was the biggest issue according to Pierre McGuire I remember getting "The Hockey News" magazine and the scouts consensus was that he didn't always play consistently. Pretty much the reason why alot of decent players drop outside the top 10.
-AJ-
what Two different people. Muir says he's not agile, Button says he is. Varying opinions I suppose. Also keep in mind that it's Wikipedia which can have questionable accuracy.
Ronalds.Kenins41
what That is why the smart hockey commentators like Freidman and Mackenzie try to avoid making predictions cause they know they will look like idoits and lose their credibility if they are wrong. Speaking of failed predication's, the entire hockey central sportsnet crew predicted that LA would win the series over SJ, Quick would be "rock solid" and "their couldn't be a worse opponent for the sharks then the kings". SJ is now up 3-0 in the series and have scored 17 goals in 3 games against the the kings.
