What would the NHL look like if they allowed PED's?

Recommended Posts

I would imagine a situation where the Sedins are on horse steroids and flying down the ice at 60km taking clappers that if miss the net, shatter the glass. What do you guys think?

I think 420 lasted a little longer for you...

Just kidding puddin

The thing about steroids and hockey that is overlooked is that steroids really won't do all that much for a player's ability to execute the game better. With cycling steroids make perfect sense, they make you stronger and last longer and that's cycling. In baseball being faster and stronger is huge, just being able to shave a split second off the dash to first or hit a couple more home runs a year are big plays.

In hockey, getting to the puck first and winning puck battles only goes so far. The real advantage would have to come in some sort of enhanced intelligence on how to play the game and what to do with the puck when you get it or how to actually go get the puck from the other team. For this reason steroids might not ever be a major problem.

Now blood doping would probably be the better choice. Blood doping doesn't increase raw strength like steroids, it enhances oxygen flow to muscles to aerobic capacity. This would allow players to have more intensity during the game.

Oh and testing happens twice a year, once by the team and once by the league. Also the league is allowed to check up to 60 suspected players of PEDs

^^^ LOL

In all seriousness I think some guys would be rocking horse steroids weighing 280 pounds at 6'1 and killing people.

It would likely be short lived in a contact sport. The player may get a couple of beast years then their body will decline hard and their career would be over before 30.

At least that is how things seem to go in the NFL with players who were legitimately on steroids. (See David Boston and Shawne Merriman)

You sure they're not 'cycling' steroids in the NHL now?
