Canes GM Rutherford to step down

Recommended Posts

its been widely speculated that ron francis will be stepping into the role, likely with rutherford staying on as president.

that said, i could also see francis coming in as president and hiring a gm, as is the growing trend.

Rutherford doesnt want to be the guy to trade Staal. He finally got the Hartford Whalers to the cup final twice while winning once. Francis will be a fine GM. Carolina, not being a hockey hotbed has an amazingly hard time attracting free agents and when they do get a bite on one, they seem to have to overpay....much like Florida, much like others.

Jim has drafted decently and developed his players and ran that organization very responsibility. Much like Nashville, things have gotten stale and a shake up is finally warranted. Hopefully more Whaler alumni start coming back just as Francis has.

Yes, like for example, Missing the playoffs for like a billion years in a row.

Carolina has at least won a cup under his tenure. The Hurricane's have only had two top ten picks since winning their cup.

Lindholm and Skinner. Clearly if there's a problem in Carolina it's the same as ours. Drafting.

I don't think the Jack Johnson situation was handled well. When you have a stud d-man and he wants to play in college another year you have to respect his decision. But Rutherford panicked and traded him away. Sort of like Gillis not signing Mitchell, panicked and traded for Ballard.

To be fair Johnson has been traded from a few teams, LA, then Columbus. (Maybe because LA was already deep on Defence)

Though they did win a cup, do you really think that was his doing?

I think you are over analyzing things completely.
