bigbadcanucks
Hard to believe, but, according to Bloomberg the Canucks are ranked 25th among 122 pro sports franchises for being the smartest spenders. LINK: http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-04-24/smartest-spenders-in-sports-2014 Takes into account payroll vs. # of wins over the past 5 years. Our arch-nemesis the 'hawks are ranked no. 1 in all pro sports (our next arch-nemesis, the Bruins are ranked no. 3).
Herberts Vasiljevs
It's only really hard to believe because of how much us fans take this team for granted. You come on to this board and you'd think the Canucks equivalent to Al Qaeda.
Tom Sestito
Can't view on my phone but I'm assuming the spurs are also a top ten team..

You come on to this board and you'd think the Canucks equivalent to Al Qaeda. Hard to believe because my mid to long term memory is cr@p. I see the lousy play of the Canucks and 25th overall ranking this past season with a team up near the cap, and see the lousy contracts (Burrows @ 4.5; Hansen @ 2.5, Booth @ 4.25, Sedins @ 7.0, etc.) and think to myself, "self, that's not smart at all." Ronalds.Kenins41
Canucks position will change a lot in the next five years. Not surprised though that we are the #1 ranked Canadian team.

bigbadcanucks
Too bad they fired the guy that got them this success. ^^^^That was my initial thought when I first read the article, then I asked myself, "Self, who was responsible for signing of the Sedins $7M contract ($14M total); Burrows $4.5M; Hansen's $2.5M; Edler's $5M; Garrison's $4.25M; Luongo's $5.333M that "sucked"; allegedly signing Tortorella to 5 yrs at $2M; failing to manage "Goalie-gate" properly; failing to land a legit top six forward or two; failing to build the depth that we needed to compete effectively this past season; taking the fan base for idiots with his arrogant attitude; presenting himself in the media and his pressers as the smartest guy in the room; etc." And the answer was Mike Gillis. Sure, MG did a good job of getting us wins over the past four of five years, but this is the same guy who painted the team into a corner with a pile of $4M+ contracts with NTC/NMCs and has had to operate on a shoestring budget to fill in the gaps for depth. The right guy got fired...next right guy to be fired -- John Tortorella.
