Southpop45
To Van: 5th overall pick To NYI: 6th overall pick + Chris Higgins Why Van does this Linden shows fans that he intends to re-shape the roster and get the youth movement started. Van secures one of the big 5 in this years draft and clears up a roster spot for a young forward. Note: Chris Higgins does have a limited NTC but the islanders were his favorite team growing up and he comes from that part of NY so he most likely wouldn't stand in the way of a trade. Why NYI does this By keeping this years pick Snow proves that he is committed to making the playoffs next year and avoid giving the Buffalo Sabers a high draft pick in 2015. Higgins is a solid player on a cheap contract who will contribute 35-45 points a season (possibly more if he plays with Tavares) and teach the kids in NYI how to play the right way. As well Snow will also move down only one spot and still be able to draft a really good prospect at 6th overall
qwijibo
Higgins is not enough to for the isles to make this deal
MayRayDown
Higgins is not enough to for the isles to make this deal I think its overpayment by us tbh. They get a 2nd liner and only move down 1 spot. There is a drop off between 5 and 6 but they both are unproven.
zombieksa
He may be a streaky scorer but Higgins is a valuable part of the team. in 2011 we had Daniel, Raymond, Higgins, Torres down the left side, we have already downgraded LW too much to get rid of Higgins as well. I wouldn't do it for 1 position that's for sure.
DrChill
Depends on who of big 5 is left to be honest.
YEGCanuck
A simple strategy is to be prepared to initiate a trade is to wait until the first few picks unfold and then decide to move up (or down) within the first round.
canucks155
Snow may be stupid, but he's not an idiot. This trade is BAD for them. The drop off from 5-6 is a substantial one and it will take someone or something of more value to get this trade done.
Pears
Snow may be stupid, but he's not an idiot. This trade is BAD for them. The drop off from 5-6 is a substantial one and it will take someone or something of more value to get this trade done. Except there's still strong talent in the 6-10th range. Moving down a spot AND getting a solid middle six guy as well? It's not as bad as you're making it out to be.
Aladeen
Snow may be stupid, but he's not an idiot. This trade is BAD for them. The drop off from 5-6 is a substantial one and it will take someone or something of more value to get this trade done. Snow would be an idiot to drop only one spot and get a consistent 15-20 goal scorer with defensive upside who is from NY? This is overpayment by the Canucks big time, so glad you have absolutely no say in what the Canucks do or don't do cause I am sure you would give Kesler up to any team willing to pony up a used Crosby jock strap. Madness
Canucks overpay. To move up one slot your giving up a solid 2nd/3rd line player who can put up 15-20 goals. The drop off between 5 and 6 talent isn't that big anyways.
ken kaniff
NYI are pressured to perform well next season. Getting a play that could help them next season so they don't give a high pick to Buffalo would be worth it. They could still draft Ehlers to play alongside Tavares or Strome. That would be nuts
Mr.53
NYI trade raps us. No deal. This draft is looking more and more interesting every day. The top 3 are the op 3, then theres a slight drop off for the next 3, but After Nylander's performance in the u18s, I personally think he is just as good as both Drasaitl or Dal Colle. It all matters on what you need. You need a center, you take drasaitl, left wing Dal Colle, right wing, Nylander. I understand they all have different styles but talent wise they are about equal. Then the next 3-4 are all in the same class to me as well. (Ritchie, Virtanen Kapenen, Ehlers, Fleury (if you want defense.) My point being, unless you're moving into the top 3 or acquiring Reinhart, Bennett, or Ekbald, trading up really is not worth it.
JeremyCuddles
Why? 15 goal scorer, good in his own end, so we can move up one spot?
Rush17
I wouldn't be opposed too it if there was a quality top 5 player left that we really wanted. Someone like Draistil or Rinehart? I personally think Bennett is going to be a bust. Dal Colle looks decent but rather have one of he other 2 if they are still on the board.
Rush17
The thing is we have so many 3rd/4th line quality players. The only issue I have with trading Higgins is he could bring back a solid return since he is clutch and could be packaged with Kesler if he were to be dealt. I would much rather toss in someone else around 3rd line level. Pref not Hansen because his speed makes him an attractive asset to deal separately. But that's just my opinion take it for what you will. Not sure if any 3rd liner would do it though. They probably would want more. Maybe our 6th + 3rd liner of their choice + a struggling aging prospect perhaps someone like Sauve was a few years ago.
Wiznac
Seems like a overpayment to only move one spot... Also higgins has a limited NTC so up to him if he wants to move to NYI
Messien10
Depends if its one of the top 3, the Sams or Ekblad, probably not for Draisaitl or Dal Colle.
