William_Clarkson
The Canucks aren't winning the cup with this core and there are still some spots missing from the future top 6 forwards and top 4 defense man. For the future top 6 forwards I see: Kassian, Horvat, Shinkaruk, and Jensen. Defense man: Tanev, Corrado, and maybe Edler. One of the top 6 forward spots can be filled by drafting Ritchie with the 6th overall. To Pittsburgh: -Kesler To Vancouver: -Pouliot -2015 1st -Rights to Sutter Also, should try and move some other players for draft picks. Higgins & Hansen to team lacking depth for a 2015 1st. Markstrom for a 2015 1st/2nd depending on what's he worth. Booth for a 2015 pick to a team looking for a spark in their bottom 6 and has lots of cap space with the salary cap going up. Free Agents: Santorelli for a year for $1.5M Kassian for 3 years at $1.8M Tanev for 2 years at $3M Sutter for 2 years at $2.25M Elliott for a year at $2.3M (overpaying probably, but cap space isn't an issue and he needs to want to come here) The same depth as last year for 1 year deals if not already signed (Stanton, Weber, Dalpe, etc.) Lineups: FORWARDSDaniel Sedin ($7.000m) / Henrik Sedin ($7.000m) / Zack Kassian ($1.800m)Alexandre Burrows ($4.500m) / Mike Santorelli ($1.500m) / Nicklas Jensen ($0.863m) Shawn Matthias ($1.750m) / Brad Richardson ($1.150m) / Brandon Sutter ($2.250m) Tom Sestito ($0.750m) / Kellan Lain ($0.600m) / Darren Archibald ($0.750m) DEFENSEMENDan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m) Alexander Edler ($5.000m) / Chris Tanev ($3.000m) Jason Garrison ($4.600m) / Frank Corrado ($0.591m) GOALTENDERSEddie Lack ($1.150m) Brian Elliott ($2.300m) BUYOUTSKeith Ballard ($0.000m) RETAINED SALARIES (1.13% of upper limit)Roberto Luongo ($0.800m—15.00%) I believe Edler can have a bounce back year playing with Tanev. Jensen will continue to develop. Kassian will continue to develop with the twins. Corrado will get to play in the NHL all year. Lack gets Ellliott to mentor him. Guys like Horvat, Pouliot, Shinkaruk, etc. will play in the A or CHL, but may be called up in the event of injuries. If by the trade deadline Santorelli is doing too good move him for a draft pick and put Schroeder on the second line. If Richardson is doing too good move him for a draft pick and see if Horvat or Gaunce can take the third line center roll (or just call up a winger and shift Sutter to the center). At the draft, draft a center (McDavid, we can hope). With the other 2015 picks try and grab a D-Man and other players, maybe even another goalie. Future Top 6: Ritchie-2015 Draft-Jensen Shinkaruk-Horvat-Kassian Future Top 4: -Pouliot/Tanev -2015 or Edler/Corrado
HunterHorvatBure
Don't think Ritchtie will be a top line guy. You can't call guys up from the CHL mid season like you can with the A, and Horvat would still be ineligible to play in the A. If Horvat is not ATLEAST put on the 3rd line this upcoming season then his development is screwed in the C. As for the Pittsburgh proposal, it's not happening. Didn't happen at the deadline, won't happen now. Kesler is the right guy to build a new young core around. We don't want to turn into EDM buddy remember that. I'm not against keeping Kesler, but keep in mind that at the draft we'll have a real GM who can be trusted to make trades as opposed to an idiot who put the team in this position in the first place. I'm 100% against keeping Edler, but at least his play in our own zone will help us get McDavid.

Azzy Mahmood
To Pittsburgh: Kesler To Vancouver: Pouliot + 2015 1st + Rights to Sutter Higgins & Hansen to team lacking depth for a 2015 1st. Markstrom for a 2015 1st/2nd depending on what's he worth. Booth for a 2015 pick to a team looking for a spark in their bottom 6 and has lots of cap space with the salary cap going up. I think Pittsburgh would do the Kesler deal with their 2014 1st, but not their 2nd. No-one wants to lose their 2015 1st. No way do Higgins+Hansen return a 2015 1st, not even the 30th overall. No way does Markstrom even get you a 2015 2nd. He's a marginal goalie prospect and almost all NHL teams have better prospects in their system. A 3rd is the best you'll get. Booth would not get a 7th round pick. He literally has zero value. Buyout or make do are the only two options here.
Madness
Even if we tank. I'd bet we'd lose the McDavid draft lottery. Last place seems to always lose nowadays.
Cold Hard Truth
Play Edler 25-30 mins a game, Keep Daniel Sedin eating up all the quality minutes and McDavid is ours.Regardless of whose coaching.
Me_
Tanking on purpose has to be the most idiotic thing to do in sports history. It makes no sense whatsoever. Hasn't worked for the Oilers, who are now comprised of 23 depressed NHL players. Hasn't worked for the Canucks' sister franchise, Buffalo; tanking doesn't work. Hasn't worked for Florida either. Until those teams get some serious reinforcements via any avenue, it makes no sense at all. Even then, a losing culture has infiltrated in the minds of their players and any "winner" who is inserted in those lineups will fast be taken by the same affliction; a losing mentality. JeremyCuddles
Don't want/need Sutter. Bennett Pouliot 1st 2015 For Kes Is minimum I'd accept. I'd be willing to bet we'd need to add Hansen in this deal, the rights to Shredder are about as valuable as a kick to the nuts. And I want to keep Higs. LW Santorelli. We need to offload defence contracts. We have too many people making top 4 dollars who have been outplayed by cheaper players. Garrison Edler Bieksa or Hammer (hopefully not him) need to be moved. Bieksa being Right handed is a strong candidate to be kept, not to mention his leadership.

If Ritchie can find good chemistry with whoever he's with it will work. Lot's of top teams have players who may not actually be first liners on their first line. Look at Burrows. Also, I don't see how Kesler is the right guy to build around. He's the Canucks most valuable asset that could actually waive his NTC. He rarely passes the puck (which is odd since he use to). Horvat is a similar player and I don't see Horvat becoming a first line center and Kesler is a 2nd on a competitor. Buyout or make do are the only two options here. Pittsburgh might be willing to, they really want to win the cup, especially since Kesler is the type of player they need and he can easily be traded to another team. For Higgins & Hansen maybe if the Canucks threw in their second. Higgins & Hansen to move up from a high 2nd to a 18-30th pick. I could see Booth getting back a third or fourth. He will have one more year on his deal and the cap is going up. If a team doesn't plan on signing plenty of free agents and have lots of cap space, they could just take him for the year. Even if we tank. I'd bet we'd lose the McDavid draft lottery. Last place seems to always lose nowadays. Still lots of first line centers in the high parts of the draft. I don't see the Canucks getting dead last, bottom 5 in the league would be sufficient.

Garrison Edler Bieksa or Hammer (hopefully not him) need to be moved. Bieksa being Right handed is a strong candidate to be kept, not to mention his leadership. Delete Edler, Garrison and there's enough room for a Weber contract. WEBER - HAMHUIS TANEV - BIEKSA STANTON - CORRADO Cleans it up a bit, secured youth. Bieksa is replaceable but I like his attitude. If more is needed for offensive help, Bieksa, Kesler and Booth deleted off the books could go a very long way. That's enough money for Statsny and E. Kane. Here's to Benning dealing for Lucic. D. SEDIN - H. SEDIN - LUCIC (7.000 - 7.000 - 6.000 - 20.000) KANE - STATSNY - KASSIAN (5.250 - 7.000 - 0.870 - 13.120) HIGGINS - RICHARDSON - MATTHIAS (2.500 - 1.150 - 1.750 - 5.400) SESTITO - LAIN - ARCHIBALD (0.750 - 0.600 - 0.660 - 2.010) WEBER - HAMHUIS (7.857 - 4.500 - 12.357) TANEV - BIEKSA (1.500 - 4.600 - 6.100) STANTON - CORRADO (0.550 - 0.600 - 1.150) LACK (0.750) MARKSTROM (1.200) TOTAL: $62,087,000 Almost $8.000 MIL in cap space. Sure the Canucks might not have the pieces to acquire Lucic, Kane and Weber, and/or the trading team might not want to part with such players. Nonetheless, the Canucks are in extremely good shape capwise if those NTCs disappear. Another scenario is to trade those pieces for whatever is needed to acquired whoever is available that fit. With some hard decisions, the Canucks can have quite the buying power on the free agent market. OUT: Kesler Edler Garrison Booth Burrows Hansen Schroeder Santorelli Alberts Y. Weber IN: 1RW 1LW 1C 1D $27.020 MIL to spend.
